As I sit here and plan my hibernation from football (cause I don’t want to see another football field or football for awhile after today), I thought I’d share my observations from the 2006 Bark Bowl.
- If the Kerns play in any of the fall leagues with the team they had today, you can hand them the trophy. I have never seen in my life two different teams literally quit against the same team in a day. - The Vegas Nights, the team with the coolest name, offense reminds me of a pick up game at the schoolyard. Their quarterback is the truth and that schoolyard offense was effective enough to get them to the championship game. - Dre from Who’s Next is actually really good. We all know him from the infamous 80+ response threads and I hope I don`t start another one. I can honestly say that I was expecting to see a pompous, arrogant, non-stop talking player out there. He was the total opposite. He was humble and made big plays. I hope he continues to let his play speak for himself. - There is no Lazy Sundae/Rhinos rivalry. When you are beaten by a team in your last four games with them with the last game being a shut out, there really isn’t a rivalry. - There are a lot of hungry new teams out there. Pain, Diesel, etc. I’m coming across a lot of teams that are serious about improving and making a statement in this league. There was one coach of a team in attendance today (they did not participate in the tournament) that will be making there inaugural entry into the season this fall. This coach stayed for the entire Bark Bowl to scout and see what where the traits of the successful teams in this league so that he could position his team for success. Veterans teams beware, while you’re resting other teams are hunting. - Wease, the Left DE for the Rhinos, is the best defensive lineman in the league bar none.
See you in the fall To the commissioners, great job on running the tournament!

Thanks for a great day. Good times had by all. All teams brought it in the heat. I`m a little biased but "I" feel we proved we belong. Looking forward to playing this fall. And yes, Wease (Rhinos), you are a beast... but we will find a way to deal with you. Take care all but hey August 27th... the Pain begins.

Dre is the real deal, for sure, but in regards to Pain, they could use an upgrade at the QB position. Dude who took most of the snaps was an interception machine and couldn`t handle the pressure of a real pass rush. It`ll be tough for them to compete with the big boys with him under center....

-If they played the State Tournament in one day Kerns would win it every year. -Magnums are not that bad and they will be a pretty good team this time next year if they keep it all together. -S&S looked like a C team -Pain has size but not enough speed except for the one real fast little guy -If Chuck Norris can protect the QB some day look out! -Sharks do not play to win they play not to lose

Broadland needs a QB.. Dude that was playing QB for them is old as hell, and couldn`t get his team into the end zone at all! I feel sorry for that team, becasue it looked like them had alot of talent on the team, but in both games I saw from them there Quarterback position was below average..

Apparently the Sharks play to win Championships...

here is why
Aug 07, 2006 11:01 AM | | ; |
only because they don`t ever get to play Kerns in the championship games.

Broadlands QB needs to get his teeth knocked out, or may that be dentures, old man is dirty and it`s known league wide, and no I`m not talking about legal crack backs and being physical I`m talking about elbow throwing, leg tripping, will beam you with a ball just to try and prove a point and yesterday I saw him yelling and pushing one of his players around, I would have knocked his old a$$ out

Its not the Sharks fault if Kerns doesnt get there! Not picking on Kerns, just stunned that people wont acknowledge the Sharks record.

To "more observations" thank you for the kind words. We feel like we are slowly adding the pieces to compete with some of the better teams out there. Our downfall yesterday was that we started the day with 10 players (after 3 dropped out the last minute for various reasons), 2 were injured early on and we were stuck playing our last 2 games with only 8 players. Had we pulled off the upset over the Rhino`s, I`m not so sure we would be able to field a team in the next round. haha.
Definitely a great experience for our team and we improved over last years 0-2 performance. Good, clean games against MacDaddies, Broadlands, and Rhino`s.
Look forward to seeing everyone in the fall league. Hopefully some of you will be playing weeknights in b league.

Rob, what`s up with the weeknights in the B league? Is that this Fall too?

The FCFFL league is weeknights and the way they did it last fall, they split it up between A League, B League and C League before the season started and then only the top half of the teams made the playoffs.

My observation is that I cannot stand up today.
Kerns: never saw them play before yesterday but they seemed simply invincible and I figured they would win it. Every player at every position was a step faster and sometimes it seems like they were in the huddle.
Vegas Nights: new qb who is very shifty and throws low passes on a rope that are hard to pick. They got it together after the first game.
Maroon&Gold (Lynchburg?): also the first time seeing this team play and they are GOOD. Looking at the brackets if they had won the first game they probably would have been in the championship game.
Lazy Sundae: I only saw a little bit of the game they were playing against Rhinos and they did not look like themselves out there. No intensity and lots of mistakes.
Rhinos: see Lazy Sundae.
Sharks: Solid but Kerns was better. Whoever won that game was going to win it all.

Bark Bowl is definitely the battle of the fitness. Rhinos, Vegas, Lazy and Sharks all have great players. They are the more seasoned team. Kerns have a lot of young fresh athletes on their team and it showed at the end. Rhinos, Lazy and Vegas just ran out of gas after game 4. It tough and the heat doesn’t help either. Great job to everyone that entered in the tournament. There were some results that we would of never thought happen…but any given Sunday.

i agree, it was good competition. 3 of our 4 games were all close, ( a little diff. from our league down here in harrisonburg) i might have got half excited about it if i wasn`t debating on passing out at any point from heat stroke. i agree on kerns being a very good team, glad we didn`t have to play them this year, but nice guys all around.
i can speak for myself as a lineman, i feel for all the offensive and defensive lineman, it`s a straight physical battle each time, so respect goes out to both sides
