Has there been a change to the double pass rule? Someone told us yesterday that you are no longer allowed more than one foward pass behind the line of scrimmage.

I don`t think you could ever have more than one forward pass behind the line.

It is my understanding that you can throw as many overhand passes as you want BEHIND the line of scrimmage. This past Sunday there was some confusion with the officials as to whether we were using National Rules or State Rules. All of our leagues going forward will follow the State Level Tournament Rules so no one is confused come the State tournament time.
I will confer with the officials as to that ruling about forward (overhand) passes BEHIND the line of scrimmage as post another reply by thursday confirming the ruling.
One thing you can do is always ask the crew of officials officiating your game before game time what rules are they using State or National. Make sure they are following State level rules. The officials crew we have now are very knowledgable, unlike the officials we had in the Fall 04.
Thanks,
Rob-Commissioner

I was the one that pointed it out. I just went back and re-read the modifications to the rules and I was mistaken. As long as the forward pass does not cross the line of scrimmage, it is permitted to throw another forward pass; however, it is not permitted during a two point conversion attempt. At least that is how I read it. Again, I could be wrong and would certainly defer to the refs.

Rob and Tom...I was very impressed with the officials at Braddock Park this past week. They stated thier "hot buttons" if you will at the coin toss telling us what they would and would not tolerate. They then called a perfect game, and at one point conferred when one official was unclear on a field spot and down ruling, and ultimately made the right call. Much improved over the referees in prior seasons.

I think most of the refereeing has been good over the years. The only thing is the one old codger that penalizes for swearing. A guy on our team got a penalty for saying "damn". Swear to god.

I can empathize...I know the ref you are talking about...we got three consecutive 15 yard penalties (100 yard field) one game...two for swearing, then a third on a pass interference committed by the frustrated guy who got flagged for the last #$%^. LOL!

One thing to note: the USFFA allows unlimited forward passes from behind or within the neutral zone. Even if the ball passes over the nuetral zone into the defense zone (positive yardage), the player can return to the offensive side of the neutral zone to throw another forward pass. A bit ambigous put that is what is contained in Rule 7, section 4 of the USFFA rulebook. VA state rulebook has been amended to disallow this rule for 2004.
