Question: Is this a contact sport?
Answer: Look, we are not playing FAG Football! Contact is part of the game. As long as there is contact behind the line of scrimmage, there will continue to be “pancakes” and “bull-rushes”. They are as much a part of the game as an “INT” or “Long Bomb” . If you can’t handle the contact, go make “A League of Your Own” but if you are going to continue to play in this MENS league, be a MAN. The league is very competitive and well represented in the state tournament. The last thing we want (as a whole) is to become a bunch of crybabies. In the big picture of things, Fairfax County wants to be the dominant force that represents VA at nationals. We all may not be friends. We may even hate each other. But the bottom line and the last thing that needs to be said is that we all respect each other. Lets stop all the Sh!t talking and play the game. And if that means a little contact, so be it. I want people to see Fairfax County as some tuff SOB when we all go down to States.

Since when have cheap shots and trash talk ever been a part of this league? It is only a few bad teams out there. I feel that most of us get along great after the game. This is a great, clean, can take your mom to the game kind of league.

I agree 100%. I`ll admit I have hit some guys coming over the middle , but that was in my younger days. This league is based on skill and guys try to make up for the lack of it by "taking out " people.Refs need to crack down on unnecessary hits.

i would have to agree that hitting someone going across the middle is a cheapshot. but contact behind the line of scrimmage is a part of the game. can we agree on that? and define trash talking.... if you think that trash talking is getting excited over a play and showing emotion... i would have to dissagree with you. it becomes trash when you make it personal. flag football, and any sport for that matter, is 30% physical anf 70% mental.

Bottom line is this.We are all going to experience contact.I think some guys out there are either headhunters or don`t fully know the rules of the game.We all have to go to work the next day and play each other the following Sunday.I think the refs need to be aware of those players looking to hit someone and issue stern warnings and crack down on intentional cheap shots. If it is not intentional, then the refs need to reming them of the rules.Simple as that.

so what is a cheap shot? you sound like you have played in the league for a couple of years. you said it yourself, when you were young you took some shots on people that were not with-in the lines of the game. i have been in the league for 4 years now and have seen some hard hits. but because they are hard, does that make them cheap? if you have ever played any kind of football, you have always been taught to keep a heads up. if you run around (behind the line of scrimmage) not thinking there is going to be some contact, you are going to end up on your "can". but does that make it a cheap shot?

Bottom Line: This is flag football. There is contact allowed on the line of scrimmage (blocking/pass rushing), there is also a 5-yard bump rule allowed. You are also allowed to make a play on the football as a defender. That`s the contact that is allowed. Anything else, the refs should be calling penalties. The only way to determine if its a cheap shot is whether or not it was done intentionally to injure someone. Sometimes people make a play that`s a little rough and that can be attributed to their competitiveness and their attempt to make a play. Other times, people play rough to either intentionally hurt someone or to "send a message." That is a cheap shot and should not be allowed.

I agre 100%.I have hit some people and have been hit.I have been playing since`93 in the contact league and everywhere else in Va.I know trhe difference between a good hit and a "message" blow. Most of us have been playing together for years and we know that people are going to get hit. Some teams come into this league from the contact league or from pick-up and don`t know the rules. They determine their value by how many people they can lay out.I have watched several games and have seen a few guys do this time and time again.Problem is - the team they play for gets labelled and that`s when the trouble starts.

Thanks. It is up to the refs and the commisioners to discpline people who continue to use these tactics.I know of three guys who do this every chance they get.I hope the power that be are reading this.

I am not getting caught up in this trash style of football by naming teams because it is individuals who are committing these cowardly acts.Maybe those individuals should get some skills , so they won`t have to resort to those tactics.I don`t blame the team because for the most part - everyone is out to play a good game.I will let those teams and the refs take care of those individuals .It is not my place to point fingers.

Come on guys this leauge is a pansy league so stop your complaning. If you even touch someone the wrong way you will be called for it. Lets not forget that if you run like a human being you will be flaged for flag guarding. Its a glorified version of powder puff with some rugby attached to it. If you cant handle this version of football than you need to play a pansy sport like soccer or something
