Tom,

There`s probably not too much we can do as a league but ask, but could you please ask the county to consider installing nets behind some of the goal posts on fields that border streets, fences, etc?

Two fields immediately come to mind.
1) Braddock Park - The south end zone borders a golf course and a thick buffer of trees lies on the golf course side of the fence about 20 feet behind the goal posts. Most of our kicker`s kicks have ended up over the fence and others have even become stuck 15-20 feet high in the trees. Every game, our 10-year old ball boy chases each one down, having to blatently ignore the posted "no climbing of fence" signs.

2) Baron Cameron #1: The south/east endzone is against a thin row of trees that separates the park from Baron Cameron Rd. Some kicks are stopped by the trees, but others are blasted into traffic on the four lane road. During one game last fall, we were assessed a delay-of-game penalty because one of our players (we wouldn`t send the ballboy into traffic) had to wait for traffic to clear before retrieving the ball from the median. I`ve also seen this problem at Greenbriar.

I don`t know what the nets cost, but I do know that nobody wants liability from fence-jumping or traffic-dodging injuries, or property damage to cars at BC. Thanks for considering this.

To be clear, I`m not asking for two nets to be installed at every field in the county. I`m simply asking that the county consider installing nets only behind those goals that border other property or hazards.

Yes, BC#1 is not quite as close to the fence/woods/road as Braddock Park.

I agree with you on Braddock Park - saw it firsthand this past weekend. We`ll talk to youth football and see about coordinating something there.

There`s also the Pop Tree Park parking lot. You know its a player`s first season in the league when they pull up into what they think is a prime parking spot...

Or.... You could just explain to your kicker that he doesn`t have to kick the ball 50 yds on an extra point.

"Visitor"...valid point, but I`d rather he put the ball through the sticks instead of altering his mechanics to account for a field issue. Be it a 40 yard FG or XP, the problem remains the same. The ball still ends up "out of the park", literally. Maybe I shouldn`t complain...

Tom, thanks for looking into it.
