Just curious to see if anyone in the league played in college or semi-pro. If you did, where?

One of our guys from My Plumber, B. Hall, currently plays semi-pro, one of our o-linemen, Chuck, played LB at Wake Forest and our S/WR, Danny, played DB at Maryland.
I play semi-semi-pro in an all girls league ... I`m killin` `em too ... layin` them out ... well, except for that one big girl!! LMAO!
Sef ... who is Spiderman? Danny? By the way, good run-back last Sunday! I think that`s one of only a handful of kickoff returns I`ve seen in this league in 3 years ... pretty impresive with no downfield blockers.

We had a kickoff run back on us this year, the guy fields it in the endzone, slows up like he`s going to down it then bolts, 108 missed flag pulls later and he`s in for the score....the next week, a guy fields our kick-off in the endzone, starts to take it out and the ref blows him down, ball at the 20, stating you can`t return a kick from the endzone??? Wish he would`ve been the ref the week before...does anyone know the ruling on returning kickoffs from the endzone??.....All I played in college was beer pong.....damn I miss the good o`l days.....

What I`ve found through the years is that having college or pro experience is not that big a factor when it comes to flag football. It`s all about heart and desire and a lot of times these ex-college and pro guys don`t have the heart to play hard in flag football after experiencing crowds of 40,000+ during their tackle football careers.
Case in point: Back in the early 90`s we had Calvin Muhammed on our team back when Fairfax County still had a Spring league. Some of you may remember him as a tall, speedy, wideout that played for the Oakland Raiders and finished up his career with the Redskins. The guy could flat-out fly and could probably jump over a house if he wanted to, but he either didn`t care to try to catch balls or just plain had horrible hands, because we could never complete a pass to him. He ended up getting frustrated and quitting after one season, mainly because I gave up throwing it to him, because of course the other teams knew who he was and made sure he wasn`t running free through the secondary.
In any case, we were like undefeated that season and the guy`s bitchin`. I`m like, "Dude, you`re triple-covered!" He`d be like, "Just throw it up!" Every now and then I`d throw him a bone, by tossing it up for grabs in his direction and it NEVER worked. He could never catch it in traffic and there was always a crowd around him. About the best we could get out of him was a 15 yard pass interference call.
My point is, with his talent, he should have been able to dominate, but he just didn`t have the desire to fight for every catch. There are plenty of guys in this league who I would take any day of the week over some prima donna NFL player.
As far as college guys on our team, we`ve got our share, but we`ve also got guys who never even played high school ball, myself included. But one thing we all share on our team is an immense competitiveness and great football instincts. Something our old NFL friend did not bring to the table.
Incidentally, I seem to recall an ex-Pittsburgh Steeler lineman and a Philly Eagle cornerback playing in the area, and I also know that Scott Norwood used to kick in Fairfax "A" sometime ago.

Novas QB, he might not have caught a ball, but don`t underestimate the "scare" value he put into defenses that probably felt like they had to triple-cover him...probably left a lot of wide open spaces for the other seven guys on the field.

1994 RICKY ERVIN WASHINGTON REDSKINS played in the Fairfax fall league in the late 90`s for a team called the Dragons. He only lasted one season; had hands of stone as well and got his nose busted on a downfield pass play. Another flag career cut short! lol!

Hurricanes had a former pro (Redskins I think?) on their team not too long ago but I haven`t seen him playing with them this spring.

Re: Calvin Muhammad... Absolutely he put a scare in the other teams and definitely opened up the field for the rest of the guys by drawing double and triple coverage... that`s one of the reasons he hardly got the ball. He was definitely a valuable player to have on the team for that reason, but he wasn`t a PLAYAH, if you know what I mean.

For a little while, but now just play flag in this league. It`s fun as hell, and a great way to get out and run around for an hour a week. I feel old though, as it takes me a while to warm up on game day.

The Fighting Chickens center/DL (me) played at Harvard (more than 10 years ago); one WR at Hanover College, and another lineman played at Allegheny College. Our QB played hoops at Penn.
Obviously, our college experience was not too helpful this year, as many of us are pretty old (and like me, fat)
