Lazy Sundae stopped the Rhinos on their opening possession with a strong pass rush. On their ensuing possession, Lazy Sundae came up with their first of several big plays, scoring on a 60 yard pass play to go up 7-0.
The Rhinos made some adjustments on offense, spreading the ball around behind the line of scrimmage. They methodically worked the ball downfield and scored to tie the game at 7-7.
Lazy Sundae struck again with the big play and went up 14-7. Rhinos again worked downfield using double passes and scrambles to tie the game 14-14. That would be the halftime score.
The second half featured extremely long drives, and field goals by both teams. The Rhinos kicked one through with 35 seconds in the game to tie it at 17-17.
A Lazy Sundae 50 yard field goal attempt with 4 seconds left fell 2 feet short of the uprights, and the game went into overtime.
In OT, Lazy Sundae intercepted the Rhinos on 2nd down to take possession needing just a field goal to win. They just missed a 25 yarder on 4th down in the first overtime and the game went into double overtime.
The Rhinos scored a touchdown to go up 24-17. After Lazy Sundae ran the ball to the 2 yard line on their first play in the second overtime, a tipped and bobbled ball wound up in the hands of a Rhino - ending the game, and giving the #2 seed and 10 year tenured Rhinos their first IFFL Spring Championship.
Congratulations Chris. It was a tough loss to take, and you guys did everything you had to to win. Hats off to you and your team.
