what is up with all these mismatches? Why are these sorry teams in the A league?

The competition in this league has fallen significantly in the last 5 years.

when sunday night league opened- it split the level of competition for sunday mornings.

Terrible idea
Sep 30, 2013 12:38 PM | | ; |
And it`s obviously showing its true colors now b/c our league is falling to pieces; I hate it! Teams are going to stop coming our to play and before you know it, BOOM! We may not even have a competitive league anymore! THAT`S my fear and we are headed down that path right now :/

No way

Josh is doing what he can to make this league fun. opening up sunday nights was supposed to increase playing time for teams that could not play in the mornings. I think it is more about money than anything else. If you`re putting up $800 , then you are gonna play where the majority plays. Some teams can put up $800 to play in multiple leagues , so you go where you team wants to play and can make. Cannot blame it on one person or one team.

First if anyone has issues with the way the league is don’t blame Josh you can blame me.
For the most part Josh runs the league now, but he runs everything by me and Tom and we decide collectively what is best for IFFL and FCFFL leagues.
If anyone wants to be angry be angry with me, not Josh, if it wasn’t for Josh there would be no morning league. I wanted to shut the Sunday morning league down last year but Josh talked me out of it and agreed to run it.
1- Why is it an Open format and not an A/B format
For the RECORD Josh and I both hate the Open format, I think it sucks, but as long as teams that should play “A” refuse to move-up and we only have 2 to 3 teams signed up to play “A” than we will be forced to make it an Open format.
Simple fact is every year teams that should move up won’t move up, those teams would prefer not to play then be forced to play “A”, which would still leave only 2 or 3 that sign up for “A” and we would still be forced to do an Open format.
Until we get 6 to 8 teams that agree to play “A” or sign-up for “A” before the season starts then Morning League it will be Open format, and teams will be divided into A/B at the Play offs. I don’t like, Josh doesn’t like it but this is the option we are stuck with.
2- Why did we start a night league?
Main reason is due to County rules on getting turf fields. Sunday night is the only night we can get 100% turf fields, teams prefer to play on Turf, and in the Spring many other teams prefer to play Sunday night over Sunday morning.
We can’t please every team, but we try to do our best.
If we do continue with the Sunday morning league my hope is in the future we do have well established A/B and C divisions but that will depend on the teams in the league playing in the divisions they need to play in to make that happen.

Did the 5-6 teams that should have played in A really say they wouldn`t play if they were moved up? If so, I`m calling out those teams for being super lame!
| |
|
Sep 30, 2013 8:42 PM | | ; |
They either said they wouldn`t play or they would be able to field team or some other excuse, bottom line for some reason in IFFL Sunday morning teams don`t want to play in "A" but yet in FCFFL weeknight we have to turn teams away that want to play "A". I have no clue why, but that is the way it has been last few years

blame Josh or Shay for the lack of competition in this league. He said it plainly, "teams prefer to play on turf." It`s society. We have gotten soft and it is now starting to rear it`s ugly head in flag football.

These youth leagues DOMINATE the turf fields in ALL OF FAIRFAX COUNTY and soccer & lacrosse are always getting priority on these fields; we cannot control that BUT what we can control is the actual love for the game; if you don`t love the game, DONT PLAY! Don`t waste our time ESPECIALLY those 5-6 teams that pusssied out and did thatscarp; I can see our league closing after this season; sad but I got that feeling

Too many teams merge. All these super teams keep getting made up from year to year and the other teams say screw it. New players show up for playoffs all the time and it`s just too much to manage everyone`s rosters. Merging means all-star teams....merging means less teams....
I`m curious to know what teams you think should be playing A. United (B level)....no, Rebels (improved over last few years but still B level)...no, Swarm (w/o twins)....no.

Said the guy who hates Lebron and the Heat also. "all star" teams on paper don`t always work. Keep your grind on in "C" and stop crying.

Love has a point. I watched the Dulles Sportsplex league fold for a lot of the reasons above. It was crazy competitive then they went to an open format for the cash. Lower talent teams got beat up and stopped coming out. No showing games. It`s still early, but watch the standings. This isn`t on the commish. No choice really. That other league was where we are 2 years ago. Dudes didn`t love their league enough, and now we all miss it badly.

I have to agree with Big T. When, for the most part, teams play against other teams who are at a similar level, it`s just more fun. No new team wants to come here and get blown out every week. It`s actually kind of sad to see, because you just know those teams won`t come back. Are there teams that would move up? I think teams like United, Rebels, Outcast, Imposters, Ruckus, etc WOULD move up. They might not be true "A" caliber teams, but they wouldn`t get blown out every week. The bottom line, by expanding to Sunday nights and keeping the open format on Sunday mornings, the low level teams will be one and done.
For the record, Shay, if you shut down the Sunday morning league, you will probably end up killing the league completely within 2 years.

Yea you have to have a Sunday morning league. The way the standings are now you could easily have a an A level - ScarFace, SC, Outcast, Panorama, Imposters, Ruckus, Outlaws, Lazy Sundae. All are either doing well or have experienced in the league. To add to Big D, if you do away with Sunday morning that will be a HUGE mistake IMO. For a lot of people its easier to get up in the morning and leave the family, then to leave around dinner time for Sunday night league.
Alot of the B/C level teams are right there talent wise just need more experience. The three most important things in flag football are: QB, pulling Flags, Dline rush. Once B/C level teams stop worrying about running a 2 dline set with 2 safeties they will drastically improve even if your DBs are not the best, a QB with no time will no be able to make the throws.
Oh and stop complaining about playing on grass you big sissies. Almost every other league not in NoVa plays on grass or should I say dirt. Its grass, its not going to kill you. Might make you less pretty. In 2012 Reuters did a study that concluded you are 22% more like to be injured on field turf than grass.
I wish this league will continue to thrive, people need to market it as well, talk to your friends, family, co-workers, etc... The more competition the better. Be sure to check out the free agent list, there are some pretty good players.

Kids these days...they don`t want to work! I remembered back in the days when teams got beat up and down the whole season. They didn`t quit and cried about it. They regrouped and practiced and practiced and eventually they got better. New teams these days, they just want instant gratification. I`m sorry but that`s not going to happen.
If you don`t like this league format then go find another league. We don`t need you!

No problem vet. The C level teams playing in the open format will weed themselves out. You have no clue what you are talking about.
Teams like SC, Ruckus, Rebels, Swarm (with twins), Truth, the list goes on and on....they all started out at a lower level, and got a feel for the game. They got rid of the hot heads, picked up a guy or two along the way, and learned how to play the game. You don`t get the fact that when you throw new teams into the mix with teams that have played for 3, 5 or even 10 years in this league, it`s just no match.
You drive away teams and the potential for them getting better and moving up a division by having new teams start out in an open format.
To Miller`s point about Sunday mornings vs nights, it`s spot on. Much easier to sneak out of the house when the family is relaxing on a Sunday morning, than to try and sneak out at dinner. Turf fields are nice, but to 99% of the league, they are certainly not a must.

I`m new to IFFL and I`ve been playing sports since I was a kid, so if it means I gotta kid my Azz kicked a few times to get better, SO BE IT but I refuse to run and hide or quit b/c my team isn`t winning each game from the start; At 28 years old, this is the most fun I`ve had playing sports since college and I will to continue to reach our, spread the word and get REAL MEN who wana play and let`s keep this boat afloat b/c I`d hate to lose my Sunday am games ESPECIALLY NOW during football season!!! I HATE AM CLEANING WITH MY WIFE!!! This gives me life before 1 pm kickoff

Big D`s point about teams starting from the bottom and working their way up is spot on. The key is to have teams move up from each division and let lesser talented teams get their shine. Miller`s point is also valid in building your team for the next level. I was a free agent last fall before getting picked up by SC. it was a good fit, because those dudes were hungry. Take your lumps for a season or two. The chemistry builds and you are a contender. For the record...Outlaws were in the "A" championship game last fall against our team SC. SC was a C team not too long ago. So many of these teams have "A" league talent. I give mad props to teams like Misfits competing against top level teams. Hang in there boys...you will look back and laugh in a couple seasons.

Not many guys out there are willing to stay in a league where they are getting killed 112-0 in the first 3 games. Yes, they are facing A level competition but how much do you really learn from those games? I am sorry, I can`t consider 112-0 (points differential) to be competing. That`s is not the way to build your team for the next level.
The good teams will recruit lower level team`s best talent and the weak team will continue to fold under this open format.

I agree with all the post against the Open Format it is not what we want. The post season will be divided into an A and B playoffs.
As far as Spring 2014 I goal is to go back to A/B and even C if we have enough teams, but we will need at least 6 teams commit to play A.
What we can`t do is have only 2 or 3 teams in A, if that happens then we either force teams to move up or we have Open Format for regular season and split it up for Post Season.
Hopefully in Spring we can get at least 6 teams to play A

Why not just have a set group of teams for (call it B or whatever), and everyone else is A. This way, the new teams, or teams trying to find their groove, can play C.

I have no problem lining up every Sunday against ANY opponent, however I will say, that the more our league becomes tainted by these lower tier teams playing in the higher divisions, especially, when they`re not ready, is an ongoing problem that needs to be fixed altogether;
As for teams combining, you can`t help that; guys get older, relationships shatter and bonds go out the window; ppl sometimes need a change of scenery; look at weeknights and all the teams that`ve combined each season, it`s gonna happen no matter what
I enjoy the league but this OPEN format definitely needs to be ONE AND DONE

FIRST SEASON
Oct 05, 2013 12:06 PM | | ; |
This is our First Season on SM and even though it`s not as competitive as weeknight and so much harder to get players out, it`s still a lot of fun. We plan on staying in it for a long period of time.
If your team sucks and you are getting beat against the best talent, it should motivate you to want to make adjustments and get better as a unit. Simple as that.

Ummmm
Oct 06, 2013 11:03 AM | | ; |
Simple as that? You are a ******. Ask Misfits if they will be back. They took another pounding...42-0. That makes it what, 154-0 in 4 games.
