Did she call and tell them it should be canceled? Because I don`t remember a county rep coming out there. Just her.

The county a lot of times uses volunteers from other organizations to make decisions on the field conditions.

That`s fine if the soccer games are cancelled as well. This league pays fees just like them. If their games continue that`s BS. Someone should go out there at noon and call the county to tell them the fields are still too wet.

The lady in the red shirt was there only for soccer and did not want the field messed up for the games that were to start at noon. She was not a county rep nor did she work for parks and rec. It would be interesting to see if they actually play on that field at noon because part of their reasoning was to get us off so it could be used by them. We understand that kids come first , but if the field was closed for condition - then it should be closed for all. But the flip side is that we do not want our league to come off as uncooperative or defiant , so let`s hope the Reston Association will see that IFFL has worked with them and that this will help the league in the long run.

The lady in the red claimed she worked for Reston Soccer. However, the fields were open according to the Reston Park website and Hunter Woods website. No county representative showed up. Her complaint was that the field would not be suitable for soccer for her kids.

And now the field is closed ALL day according to the reston soccer site . So hopefully this will be a leson learned unless of course the soccer kids actually play on the field. You know if it is open- some people will play soccer on that field today !!!!

Guys all your points are good and valid, trust me Josh and I are angry and this makes scheduling issues.

The lady is Reston Soccer, not sure if she had the actual authority to stop games or not?

First thing I did was email Reston Assoc to notify them, so if she was in the wrong this problem will be fixed, if she was right then we did the right thing.

I was told Soccer is not on the field today but if that is untrue and they do play then that is another issue and we will let Reston Assoc know.

ALL games will be made up to include the game that was stopped

As a follow up, Reston Soccer makes the call on this field over the weekend and have the authority to close it due to weather.

Also, as a side note, if a similar situation happens in the future, ONLY OFFICIALS are to be involved in discussions and decisions on whether to play or not. Players and coaches getting involved does not help the situation and don`t serve in an official capacity to speak for the league. Please let our officials do their job and stay out of the way.

Thanks.

The lady who came out was a member of the Reston Soccer Board of Directors. They post field status on their website:

https://restonsoccer.com/

We`ll use that as our call on Hunter Woods going forward.

"Players and coaches getting involved does not help the situation"

What really doesn`t help the situation is the IFFL not knowing prior to the start of the season who has the authority to close a field. Seems pretty basic. Thanks.

It`s the first time we`ve had this field, it`s a different process than any field we use and we weren`t informed of it until this incident.

If you`re unhappy with the way we handled the situation, feel free to contact me.

Considering what a poorly managed cluster F the whole morning was I think both teams handled the situation very well. Sure there was some snickering on the sidelines but not one word was said to the woman despite her poor manners and inability to show/prove how she had any jurisdiction over the field. I love you guys but, frankly, to be scolded like this after your poor procedures/communication left us in this position pisses me off.

Some advice for Reston Soccer...
1) When I arrived for the game I was shocked at the condition of the field... What good condition it was in that is. Short of the small puddle by the parking lot end zone the field was in great shape. After the storms the previous nights the fields were the exact definition of BEST CASE SCENARIO. If they are going to cancel games with that little amount of water then cancel the games the night before (especially after all the rain we saw Saturday)
2) If our first game is at 800AM don`t have one of your reps show up at 815 and be surprised that we are playing after doing absolutely nothing to announce the closing of the field.
3) If you have an issue look for the guys in the zebra shirts. They are called refs and are normally in charge of the situation. Grabbing one of them and bringing up your concerns directly is usually more efficient than storming into the middle of the end zone and proclaiming "What the hell are you doing?!? My kid needs to use this field later today!!" (Not an exact quote but pretty damn close).
4) VistaPrint... 250 business cards for <$10. Why was there so much confusion on whether or not this woman had any official position (other than her ability to articulate)??

Started typing that up before I saw Josh`s response. I love you guys and love this league. If I had anything more to say (or was pissed off to the point where it made me question that love) I would contact you directly. Now that I got alllllll that off my chest I`m done with it and looking forward to this Sunday.

I`m sorry if it came off as scolding. It really wasn`t my intent, but just so you understand my perspective, when I get an email forwarded to me from the county, containing a direct quote of:

"I then said to one of the players who was challenging me (who was Huge, I`m 5`2") that if someone had checked the field, they would have seen the standing watter (sic)...As a Board member of Reston Soccer, I would hope that the county would reconsider giving adult flag football a permit for this field."

I feel like I need to remind people to let the officials do their job. I hope you can understand where I`m coming from. Protecting our reputation and field space is paramount.

Hey man, you do a fantastic job running the league and informing everyone. HOWEVER, as one of the people who was there, I know, for a fact, there was NOBODY challenging this woman. She came up with an attitude, and was rude. Both teams were just playing the game. She then discussed with the refs (grey beard mainly), who said that he would contact the commish (you/Shay), who make the call. That he can`t go one what she says (which is the right way to handle the situation). Nobody got in her face, or was mad. More than anything, everyone was THINKING (and not saying) "who are you lady, it`s ******s day.....don`t you have a family?" She then pouted at the endzone, with her hands crossed, waiting for the ref to get the call back from you/Shay. At halftime, the game was called. She then stormed off...and both teams packed up and left (along with the other two teams already there for the next game).

Always two sides to the story. As a side note, basically anyone above the height of 5`2" is "huge" to a female that small....which, when it comes to adult males, is about 99% of men on this planet. She was bitter to begin with, and looking to argue over absolutely nothing.

as a witness, I want to reiterate that no one confronted her. When she ran on the field yelling at us to get off, we all got off and packed up our stuff. The refs went to talk to her and when they found out that she was not from the county we continued playing while she sulked in the corner of the end zone. At one point our captains went to talk with her and I do not know what was said, but she was smiling during the convo.

So for her to say that a "huge" guy was challenging her, and for them to pull our permit, is ludicrous. She`s clearly playing the "little old lady being bullied by thugs" card to get her way. No such thing occurred, everyone was respectful even if we were disappointed that the game was called.

As far as the HUGE guy is concerned, she may have been talking about me (6`5, 265lbs). Though i did not challenge her on anything. I walked up and heard the ref ask her if she was a county employee and she said no. As soon as i heard that i brushed her aside(figuratively i made no contact or statements directed at her) and ran back to the sideline to let the team know that she wasn`t an employee and we may still be playing depending on what the refs said when they contacted Josh/Shay. I have better things to do than challenge some frigid old lady. Who seems to just need to get laid and would probably be happier in life.
