Imposters make the championship game last year and don`t have to move up? Move that fresh meat up, thought there was some kind of standard we had anyway.

I think they`d have enough problems with that B lineup.

Normally there is. However it`s not firm, although we`ll probably be changing that in the future.
In this case though, the Imposters did play "A" in the Fall, and didn`t do well. They also contacted me directly and said that they`ve endured significant roster turnover to the point that they didn`t feel they could be competitive in "A".
I would much rather have a team play in "B" and be competitive instead of moving up and getting blown out every week. That`s not how you grow a league.

Hey Al, where are all the teams at? How many more do you expect?

Well, I`m expecting at least 3 more teams in "A" and maybe 2-3 more for "C" so 5-6 more in total. The 3 in "A" are pretty much guaranteed so at a minimum I expect to 25 and I`d like to see 28-30.

Not at the fields.

Ur not the police
Because it`s against Fairfax County Parks and Rec rules. And yeah, I`m not the police but I`m also not going to risk losing a field permit over it. Be respectful, that`s all I ask.

Just curious...
Mar 28, 2013 8:02 AM | | ; |
Josh, what are your thoughts on the state of this league? I have noticed that the total team count is down, the comp level seems to be a little lower and the message board pre season chatter is at an all time low. I have seen other local leagues with an increase in the number of teams that have registered....just curious of your thoughts. I`ve played in the IFFL for 10 years, so I`m not bashing you or anyone else.

I actually think we`re getting ready to hit an upswing. One of the things that we did poorly in the past was ignore our competition and rely on our reputation to stay healthy. As some our core teams have gotten older and dropped off (i.e. Rhinos, Dietze, Sharks) we`ve lost some of the newer, younger teams to other leagues.
However, we`ve recognized that and began to address it. We`ve setup Facebook pages, Twitter accounts and began advertising. We also still have the lowest prices in the area. We can do that because neither Tom, Shay nor myself draw a salary from the league. We do it for the love of the game and the league. Our main competitor is still almost $200 higher than us and, in my opinion, doesn`t offer a comparable product. I also think the introduction of a Sunday night league will be a dig deal going forward. That gets us playing on turf more and will help attract teams. I also think as we push further into the coed side we`ll continue to grow that as well. Don`t be fooled by the coed division that only has one team. We`ve consolidated that team with our weeknight coed and added a Sunday night game slot. We now have an 8 team coed league, which in my opinion is a solid start.
So, yeah I just wrote a lot but it`s something we`ve talked a lot about internally. In short, I know it doesn`t necessarily look like it, but I believe we`re about to hit a big upswing and start growing again.

Open
Mar 28, 2013 10:35 AM | | ; |
Josh, I think having the Open divison is bad for business as well. No one wants to pay to be blown out each week.
| |
|
Mar 28, 2013 10:42 AM | | ; |
Agreed and that`s why we no longer have one. The Sunday night league will be Open this season, but only because we don`t have enough teams to break into divisions. Going forward our plan is to move that into A, B and C divisions as well.

Josh said everything myself, Tom, and he have been talking about and are now working on.
I am certain within the next year you will see an increase of more new teams into the IFFL, and the FCFFL, along with a decrease of Men teams in some of these other leagues in the area.
At last count it looks like we have 10 new teams that decided to play in IFFL and FCFFL this Spring that played in the other league last year.
I am sure this pattern will continue, the reason is simple you get to play in a better run league, better refs, same fields that the other league uses and you pay a much lower price.
These other teams that have been playing these other leagues in the area are starting to get the word from us as we just started reaching out to them. Once they compare they make the obvious choice. We already know more of teams will be signing up with us in the upcoming fall.
Any suggestion or input on how to grow and get more teams is ALWAYS welcomed!

I will agree with Shay and Josh about the IFFL and FCFFL giving us different products. I have played in the other leagues and even though they are fun and offer something new, the IFFL and FCFFL are still the leaders of flag football in Nothern VA.It is like comparing the USFL to the NFL--- both offer some great football , but they are not quite yet on the same level of play or have the same rules. In a perfect world, we could play in all leagues and everything would be dandy . However , it costs money to run the leagues and to get fields , so money dictates where most people play , but you have to be fully aware of what you are paying for. Shay and Tom have always let that be known.

I see you mentioned that Team Imposters requested to move back down to "B" Division.
So, did that also happen for the Team Rebels? They WON the "B" last season and we see that they are back in "B" Division!
ALL Winning Teams should move up like it has been stated for years being in this League and I hope that our Commissioners are not feeling the pressure and backing down AGAIN and using excuses!!
Stick to the PRINTED and VOTED ON RULES and just because a team feels that they are weak one season should not be a reason to drop them down a level!
They should stay at the higher level they qualified for at least 2 seasons in a row and move down only if they have had 2-3 seasons of 75% losses in a row!
If every wannabe team who WINS and keeps dropping down then "A" Division would not prosper and lower teams moving up would not have any good competition!
ALL TEAMS should experience WINS and LOSSES and GROW from their PAINS just like the rest of us!!

Rebels won "B" last Fall, in a season that offered "A", B"+" and "B" divisions. So, basically they won "C". In my opinion they moved up by registering for "B" this Spring.
As for sticking to printed and voted on rules, we don`t have a printed/voted on rule that states a team must "stay at the higher level they qualified for at least 2 seasons in a row and move down only if they have had 2-3 seasons of 75% losses in a row" and if we did, that would be bad for business.
I think there are teams that have legitimate reasons to stay where they are or move down. No one wants to go get their butts kicked in a division they don`t belong in. It`s also why we don`t have an Open format anymore. Let`s not forget that the real reason we play, is to have fun. It`s a basic principle of sports. If teams don`t have fun, then they won`t come back.
Do I think teams that win their division or make the title game should move up? Yes. Do most them do so? Almost always. There`s a balance here that we try to strike every year and I like to think we do a decent job of it.

This is why we have coaches meetings. Funny how guys have so much to say about rules and teams on the message board , but don`t show up to a meeting where it matters !!!!

BTW, this Spring is the most teams we`ve had on Sundays (both Sping and Fall) since Spring 2010.

I think its funny that the guy put Concerned "A" Players as his name. When no "A" player would be worried about that argument. Really he is someone who lost to the Rebels and knows his team can`t beat them. Just looking to post randomly and act like a b**ch.
Theres still time for registration and I`m guessing one or two more A teams will join and it will be a good mix for the A division. Question is will Scavs or wolves be in this season.

I`m betting it was just a better time slot for their guys. and hopefully the sunday night league will become more competitive. MPBC has played in B states before. Vegas Nights has been around for some time. Novacaine and Collision will be near the top. Playboy Bunnies have been a team for a couple seasons but in the other fairfax league. I don`t know about the rest.
This season should be a walk for collision and novacaine but hopefully in the future, it will have more teams.

I`ve been around a while now and I`ve seen teams come and go. I`ve seen teams move up to or start out at a level they shouldn`t. This argument comes up almost every season.
It`s my opinion that the mindset of a team playing at a certain level based on what they did from one Spring season to the next Spring season or from one Fall season to the next Fall season is crazy. A lot can happen in a year`s time.
It`s my opinion that at team`s level should be based on its last season played. Exhibit A: The Imposters - They played in the Spring 2012 championship game. They played in A during the Fall 2012 season and went 2-5. Why should they be required to play in A if their most recent season was what it was? Exhibit B: Rebels - They belong in B this season b/c they won B (C) last Fall. Based on the argument "Concerned "A" Players" made about the Imposters, the Rebels should be back in C this season b/c last Spring they were middle of the pack in the C playoffs in an Open format.
I guess my point is that most teams play year round and to look at Spring-Spring or Fall-Fall performances is not a good way to go about placing teams in a league. Some teams are able to sustain players from one season to next, others aren`t.
