Josh, This has been going on for years. Teams will ask friends who will play only when it counts. Maybe for just one game, or have people that don`t play all season and come out in the playoffs. Some teams will say that these players are on their roster but just had not shown up all season. Some will lie about it. We need to have a print out of each teams roster. Exchange it or give to the refs for a quick check. Or even better you stop by at the end of the game and do a check then. Some B or C teams will have A players come from weeknight leagues or other countys and play. Changes everything especially if your in a low division. Must be stopped.

We have a roster check process in place. If you suspect a player isn`t on a teams roster, you need to address it with the head referee during a stoppage in play, or immediately following the game. The referee will collect the players info and pass it on to me for an official check.
Or even better you stop by at the end of the game and do a check then.
I don`t have the time or resources to do something like that. Contrary to popular belief, this is not a full-time paid position and my wife and 4 children would not be happy with me if I had to stay and check every team, every week.

Oh, and if you REALLY want to change something, show up at the coach`s meeting over the summer. If you don`t come, or send a representative for your team, you have absolutely no right to complain.

Could go to the way it use to be. Had to sign up for each game and had to play in 3 regular seasons game to play in the playoffs.

If everyone really wants to make it a big deal then there is one very easy and simple way to handle this. Just like the soccer leagues.
Every player must bring a valid photo ID to the game. Both team captains and the refs must bring a printed our roster.
Refs job to check every player before the game begins.
Is it really that big of a deal though?

Agree with "Vet." Trust me, unless a team comes out there with RG3 any added players aren`t going to make that much of a difference. At this point there is more to be said for having team chemistry versus a ringer or two.
| |
|
Wow
May 15, 2012 12:55 PM | | ; |
Vet and Big Johnson.. whoever these guys play for. Be careful. These guys are the ones who bring in the ringers to help them win. These are the guys who do it every year and have players waiting right now. Either in other leagues or friends. Josh... surprise the league and put an ID check/roster before the playoffs this season and watch how many teams you will catch doing this.

May 15, 2012 2:00 PM | | ; |
Come on this is not really a big deal. No one is getting paid enough in this league to waste their time with this. Josh already does alot with the league. So unless your are going to pay more to him kick rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FYI its easy to obtain fake IDs. So how would you handle that? And I know people on my team carpool to games and alot of them dont carry their IDs.

@Solution
The soccer leagues require valid photo IDs, because half of the league doesn`t legally pay into the county/state that provides the fields they play on!
BUT seriously this must be a B/C league problem because any decent team with chemistry will overcome any "ringer" unless it is no **** Megatron!

May 17, 2012 12:51 PM | | ; |
BTW, I don`t believe this is an issue. I`d challenge anyone to go back through the list of championship teams in A, B or C, Spring or Fall, Sunday or Weeknights, over the past 10 years and show me one team that won the whole thing because of a ringer.
What I think you`ll actually see is a bunch of teams who all have a good chemistry with each other and a lot of multiple title winners because of that chemistry. For example Wolves, D-Mob, Vegas Nights, Triple Crown, Rhinos and 7-Point Spread. Are athletes important? Of course they are, this is an athletic contest, right? It`s not the most important factor though. There have been plenty of super-athletic teams that couldn`t win a game cause they don`t know how to play as a team.
At the end of the day, this is a team sport and one great player in general won`t make or break a team. Now if someone shows up with a Mike Vick I might throw the BS flag.
| |
|
Actually....
May 17, 2012 2:52 PM | | ; |
There will be teams that bring out 3-4 guys who haven`t played all year, but are on a teams roster. Happens EVERY year. Don`t kid yourself Al, it happens, and it is what it is. No crying, but it is kind of lame. Makes a team in B closer to an A team, or a team in C closer to a B team.
| |
|
Question
May 17, 2012 2:56 PM | | ; |
So if Pain actually shows up with their whole team do we get to throw the BS flag?? I mean it`s a team of 20 that historically barley fields 8 on any given sunday.... I`m calling BS if Pain changes their game!

Regardless most of the people that are "ringers" stink at flag football. They don`t know how to pull flags or all the rules. Most WR that are new flag guard. Anyways good luck everyone.
| |
|
May 17, 2012 3:11 PM | | ; |
Here`s a fun game, let`s start a list of "ringers" that have played in this league and didn`t win their team a championship:
1 - Macho Harris, S - Virgina Tech/Philadelphia Eagles/Redskins 2 - Logan Paulsen, TE - Redskins 3 - Matt Ball, DE - UCLA/Jaguars
And I know there are tons of others who played at the D1 level or had a cup of coffee in the NFL who`ve come out here and not won a title.
At the end of the day, "ringers" generally don`t work out. This isn`t your Dad`s best ball golf tourney.

Josh,
You know you wish Matt still played. You guys had fun that game.
To the rest. Having had a "ringer" (and I wouldn`t really call Matt a ringer b/c he played in at least half our games that season) play on my team before, that doesn`t make a team. The game I`m kidding Josh about, his team won. What makes a team good or even great is chemistry first and foremost and knowing how to play flag football.
Plus, what does it say about a team that trys to "fix" a game or two by bringing in ringers to win a B or C championship? Really, what`s the point?
If your team was bad before you brought in some ringer your team will still be bad with that player.
Just my two cents. Good luck to all teams in the playoffs.

Josh,, I take your mind is already made up about this topic. You seem to oppose any chance of having this roster/id check being done. The point is not about chemistry, playing half the season, or not knowing the rules of flag football (flag guard, missed flags). The point is simple. There are other leagues that play, Weeknights and other counties. Therefore they know the rules. You take a couple A league players, put them on a B or C league team and thing change!!
| |
|
Miller Pain asst coach | |
May 18, 2012 8:24 AM | | ; |
Most A league players wont go and play with a B or C team if they are already in the league. Most of the refs out there know all the A players.

Josh hasn`t said he is against this. There is just already a roster check in place like he said. Anytime before, during, or after a game (but while you`re all at the field) ask the refs to roster check a player. The refs will ask for his name and to see his id and then his eligibility will be checked. If he isn`t on that team`s roster, I`m pretty sure they have to retroactively forfeit that game. The only difference between this and what the anonymous posters are *****ing about is this requires them to do the one thing they are too p u s s y to do. Stand up and be recognized as the guy who whined about playing against players that were too good...

I take your mind is already made up about this topic. You seem to oppose any chance of having this roster/id check being done.
My opinion really doesn`t mater. This is simply a matter of policy/procedure. We don`t have a requirement or policy in place for a pre-game ID check, and it`s never been socialized to the teams/coaches that we would do one and to try and make one happen at this late stage in the season would unsuccessful.
If you really care, I`d suggest coming to the coach`s meeting this summer to suggest your idea and bring it to a vote.

Give me a freaking break. You guys all sound like bunch of va jay jays. This bs thread has gone on long enough. You guys are making it sound like teams are out in Ashburn recruiting players for this weekend.
Listen, I`ve been in this long enough to know that there are teams that might "add" a player for playoffs, but I also know that 99% of the time those teams don`t win. Are there teams that have guys that might not`ve played much or at all during the regular season, but are still on their roster? Yes. This 3 game minimum bs is a joke.
It`s the playoffs and you better come ready to play your best ball regardless of who the other team has. Trust me, if you do your team will be fine. If you don`t like go play in one of those "roster check b4 every game" leagues you guys keep talking about.
