In an effort to help ease concerns, facilitate understanding and improve our process Shay and I had a conversation today about how we handle inclement weather and getting the relevant information out to the league. So, to that point here`s the process we`re going to follow from here on out.
On days when there is a possibility of cancellation due to inclement weather we will do the following:
If we need to cancel the night before, we will do so using the services outlined below.
At 6:30 AM Shay and I will begin checking fields. Shay will take the West fields, using Lake Fairfax as his reference field, and I`ll take the East fields using EC Lawrence as my reference field. Based upon the condition of those two fields, and discussions with the referees we will make a decision whether to play or not.
I will then update the message board, RainedOut service and a newly created Twitter page (@IFFL_Reston) to pass the information on electronically. You should sign up to follow one of these 3 services. Shay will update the rain phone line. We will strive to have these updates done by 6:45 AM. We`re not perfect, we`re human, we may not hit that exactly, but that`s what we`re going to strive to achieve.
Going forward for this season, if the game status is in question we will post either YES or NO for the games being on. However, please realize this requires some common sense. I won`t be posting if it`s been sunny all week and there`s no chance of cancelling.
All of this being said, please remember that the County doesn`t start making decisions on field status until 7 AM and can override us at any time. We`re starting a bit earlier to help everyone out as much as possible, but we can`t do anything regarding the county decisions.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email either myself (thetruthff@gmail.com) or Shay (shay@iffl.us) with questions.
Thanks!
Josh
