With all the issues of teams making the final payments for this season and the Spring, will this be the last season that the IFFL allows partial payments and doesn`t demand all of it`s money up front?

if it is

Not sure why they waited till the last week of the season to try and collect money. In the past it`s been wk 3 and around around wk 6.

Maybe

The league knows that the economy is bad and it is harder this year for teams to come up with money and they were trying to do the right thing and help teams out .

broke people play flag football? shouldn`t be hard for 10-15 guys to put together the money over the course of a season. I think its more people thinking they can get away without paying and taking advantage of the pay structure.

I say if teams dont pay by the midway point, take them off the schedule. This isn`t pick up. Its not pay as you go.

sounds like

that last post is coming from a guy who doesn`t pay to play. some teams have sponsors , so it is easy to point a finger.

I paid. I think we have 14-20 guys on the team. divided that equally throughout. Now I`ll admit having a coach/captain/rich guy who pays up front, and has his teammates pay him migth help the team. but I`m pretty sure most of my teammates have paid him. My weeknight team got sponsored. But its hard to get a sponsor for the sunday morning league.

This is true

Plus it is harder when your team only has 9-10 guys and some of them are out of work at the moment. Don`t feel right telling them they can`t play when playing football gets them some time away from the beat down of life.

i agree with swami but i think sunday league is on the downfall. The main reason being the fields. I think a lot of teams enjoy this league because we play on such nice fields with the new turf. I`m sure if someone had been keeping track of injuries, this fall would have twice the amount of injuries compared to last fall when the majority of the games were played at poplar.

If you can`t afford to pay then why would you be playing? Some guys on my team paid half of their share up front then the rest a couple weeks later.

If you are out of a full time job then get a part time job instead of playing football on Sunday mornings. I see part time signs up all over the place.

I guess if you have a sponsor or coach willing to pay up front it`s a moot point.

Don`t be a hater and delete this because I`m legitimately trying to bring out constructive discussion.

I agree with the statement about the fields. It`s hard to justify playing for IFFL when FXA gets all turf and costs just the same. I`m getting pushed by my players to switch leagues because of turf divots. We paid our time on turf years ago when we were in the C league....that sinkhole at BC#1 brings back nightmares. The big distinguisher for my team is this...if you can still qualify for the state tournament by playing in FXA and if they have all turf all the time...what`s keeping us in IFFL?

The answer used to be the message board and the interaction we had s**t talking on it. But now you can only post anonymously twice and have to be worried about hurting someone`s feelings because they can possibly delete your post if they want to. But with the significant decline in message board interaction, I`d rather bring my team back to the FXA, sure there`s no kickoff or PATs, but everything in between sure felt like football...besides, they`re moving to the same rule system as the VFFA...so why not?

My understanding is that FXA is not a member league of the VFFA so you would not be able to play in the same state tournament at the end of the year. Now, if FXA is getting turf fields on a Sunday morning while we can`t I`d be very upset. Are you sure the FXA turf fields aren`t during the weeknight like the FCFFL?

Good point Al, however, I think you may have missed the point....put in the damn requests (permit) in earlier and dont tell me that shay put them in before the deadline, he needs to do it earlier.

plays Sunday night and that is why they get the turf permits. I doubt most iffl teams would want to switch to night games on the weekend.

Honestly, fxa is a for profit league and iffl is a players league. With Fxa they are more concerned with the bottom line and it shows...the referees are not as good and the rules and competition are watered down.

You`ll also be faced with plenty of no shows and for the record they do not always get turf fields.

Yeah, I played in the FXA Summer Sunday night league this year and we didn`t have turf fields for most of the season. We started playing on turf fields, but half way through we got stuck with grass. Hell we even had a game at Nova CC.

I will say this though, in the summer the competition was pretty comparable to the IFFL.

FXA is boasting membership in VFFA. So I`m just pushing heresay. You`ll have to get the record from the source.

I think Tom runs the leagues more organized then Shay does. If you noticed all the FX weeknight games are on turf, and their schedule was up before the Sunday leagues. To me I don`t think Shay puts alot of effect in running the Sunday leagues at all. We have the worst fields, probably because he didn`t put in the proper paper work for field space, and then we end up playing on crappy fields and players end up getting hurt because of this. I sure my post will be deleted by the powers that be, but this is just my opinion! I`ve been playing in this league for a while, and when Tom ran IFFL Sundays we had more teams, and it was alot more competitive then it is now. Sundays are watered down. Take a look at the previous years on Sunday leagues and the fields the games were played on and the teams in the divisions. Then take a look at the Fairfax weeknight division currently. By far that is the best A level football out there. I think Shay just doesnt do what`s best for our Sunday league personally.

was meant to be played on grass. You guys cry like a bunch of babies about the fields. Yes, some of the field conditions suck, but guess what. Thats football. You take what you can get. Wear cleats that protect your ankles, wear some braces if need be. or dress up like the kid from Little Giants and wrap yourself in protective foam. Babies. Sure dont sound like football players.

Since there is SO much information some wrong and some right I’ll try to set the record straight, AGAIN, I generally try to limit my communications direct with the coaches but I’ll go ahead and post this so there is no misunderstandings.

Tom and I run both the FCFFL and the IFFL. Once the season starts I handle all the request and inter action with the coaches for the IFFL and Tom for the FCFFL.

Tom puts the permits in for the IFFL and FCFFL at the same time. I wish we had turf fields in IFFL but we don’t and probably never will. Besides why wouldn’t I want turf fields, do you think I like lining fields, it’s sucks.

On this issue of fields, NO matter how earlier we put in for permits it will not have any effect on getting turf or not getting turf for Sunday mornings, the allocations go to youth sports first and then type of sport according to the season your playing.

The bad news is since the IFFL is an “Adult Football” league that plays on Sunday’s we probably won’t ever get turfs fields again because of the growth of youth leagues in the county, but neither will the FXA for any Sunday mornings.

The Good news is the other league Tom and run the FCFFL the fields are turf and should stay that way.

Yes, the FCFFL and IFFL are both part of VFFA.

As of today the FXA is NOT a member of the VFFA, but don’t take my word for it go to the VFFA web site direct and see. Once on the VFFA home page Go to the VFFA Info tab then go to leagues, it will show all the leagues that are current in the VFFA.

You will see Fairfax County Men and Fairfax Men Summer along with IFFL Spring and Fall, all four are the league Tom and I run.

FXA is a company that runs many different sports, soccer, football, basketball.

Maybe the guys that runs FXA does a job then Tom and I, Maybe not? I have no clue, I’ve never seen any of the FXA games and don’t plan, that is for you guys to decide.

If teams feel they want to play for FXA then by all means do what you have to do what you think is best for your team. Tom and I will keep running the Flag Football the IFFL and FCFFL as long as it doesn’t become to much of a hassle.

We have both talked about not doing this before and one day we will stop running the IFFL and FCFFL at which time one of you guys are going to have to step up to the plate and take this over.

Good luck in the playoffs

For those of you who have not played in the FCFFL or the IFFL for long- we used to play on all grass before turf fields were here. All of the locations that are now turf were grass, so playing on turf is a gift , not a given. I don`t know what the difference is as far as fee goes , but when we did n`t have turf fields - we still played , still had injuries and still had rain outs. You new guys are spoiled !

I want to sock you little girls. With your constant whining and complaining, this is ludacris. Tom and Shay do a great job, and as you can see from his post, they do their best to secure the absolute best fields available. Going forward, I hope you slack jaws learn that if Tom and Shay decide to call it quits, this league dies.

Mannnn, I still remember playing at Herndon Intermediate my first season in the league. To call that a grass field is being VERY generous. Back then BC was heaven and Hook Rd. was god-like. Oh and don`t forget that time some of the teams had to play at Mountain View a couple years back. There was only one goal post per field and one of the field`s end zone was half gravel.

Bottom line is that the fields we had in the Spring and this Fall are pretty good.

Football is meant to be played on grass. Who cares about turf? I just enjoy getting out there with my friends and having a good time and of course winning is nice too. OK yes go ahead say we suck because we do and whatever you want to say. When it comes down to it is flag football. None of us will ever make the this our careers and it is a recreational activity. Stop complaining and enjoy the hard work that Tom and Shay put in. They both have families and lives outside of this. Although many "Weekend Warriors" that remain anonymous will bash everything because they feel they are paying too much money to not play on turf is absurd as well. It comes down to about $9/person a game for an hour of organized flag football with refs. Tom/Shay keep up the good work and ignore these chumps.

Yeah, I remember those fields at Mt. View, and when Hook Road was considered our best field. Playing on turf is cool, but it`s not my deciding factor in playing football on Sundays. We`ve played on some decent fields this fall, and I certainly don`t miss turf burns covering my knees and arms.
It is what it is. Maybe we should all pay a little more and start our games at 5 in the morning, on the turf fields with lights? Is that worth it? As long as we have a field to play on, with goalposts and somewhat straight lines, the field material is irrelevant.

Yeah

Agreed. Turf is nice, but Shay and Tom bust their asses for this league. Would I rather play on turf? Any day. But I like this league, and every piece of it, including the anonymous posters who love to bash me. I think FXA would be a disappointment for almost all of the teams who are used to what this league offers.
