What about Hook that is not a County field?

Hopefully

the county will inforce this rule today. Just because we are not playing does not mean `pick up, non-permit` soccer games are not going to tear those fields up all day. At least the county won`t blame us for that (hopefully).

They should only cancel the games every hour, maybe the 9 a.m. game would have been ok to play

Standards
May 23, 2010 8:43 AM | | ; |
Let me preface this post by saying this is not necessarily a complaint.
Shay, is there a standard the County uses to close these fields? i.e. field saturation, puddles, etc. Reason being, it does not seem that the weather changed (at all) between 6:10AM (first message) to 7:25 (closings) or even now.
Who makes the final decision: FFX Co Park Authority, FFX Co Athletics, IFFL or other? If it is the County, is it an issue of them not getting to the fields early enough to notify the IFFL? And if so, would it be beneficial to have the first game start at 9:00AM to help avoid this?
I am just trying to set/understand expectations. Considering the weather has yet to change from earlier this morning (6:10AM), I am still wondering why they were canceled OR if they should have been canceled last night.
Once again, not a complaint but rather a concern. Thanks,

FFX County makes the call. We were there at EC Lawrence when the guy came out and closed the field. I believe they have individual people come out to the various parks and make a decision.
As a side note, we played a pickup game on the turf, because although they look official, the guys play soccer there didn`t have a permit and when they saw us on the turf just went over and played on a closed grass field.

Here you go
May 23, 2010 9:27 AM | | ; |
From Shay`s Open Playoff Thread:
Scenario #1 (no cancellations) -Round 1 will be on May 23rd. -We will not play Memorial weekend 30th. -Round 2 will be June 6th -Final Four and Championships for "A" and "B" would be June 13th.
Scenario #2 (a cancellation) -Round 1 and 2 of playoffs June 6th -Final Four and Championships June 13th.

Thanks for the information we appreciate it. As a side note, this gives us less assurance that people know what is going on. So if they werent official "soccer players" who is using the turf field today. The county does NOT close turf fields because of rain.

The county in general doesn`t know unless people who use the fields let them know. They supposedly do random checks, but I`ve never seen them do it.

OK let me try to give everyone the run down.
I made the call for us to Play at 630am, I went to ECL #1 and it looked fine to me, was wet but holding water ground was hard. Told officials we were a go for this morning.
I left ELC and went to Lake FX to line it, at around 715am FX I got a call from the Refs at ECL, and was told that the actual FX Park Authority was at ELC not the volunteer field monitors that make the calls to play or not play.. FX Park Authority closed ECL, no sooner did I get that call from the Refs did FX Park Authority arrived at Lake FX and told me on the field in person it was closed as well.
I called Tom and he posted it on MB that games were cancelled at around 735 I changed the voice mail on the rain line at the same time.
I did go to Hook Rd and that was a lake at one end, I couldn`t even line the endzone water was one ½ inches deep in far endzone. Hook was worse then ECL and LAKE FX and unplayable.
The Make-ups for the playoffs is real simple everything gets pushed back, no double headers unless we get another rain out.
Round 1 June 6th Round 2 June 13th Final 4 and Championship May 20th
Let me answer some of the questions from above:
"Shay, is there a standard the County uses to close these fields? i.e. field saturation, puddles, etc. Reason being, it does not seem that the weather changed (at all) between 6:10AM (first message) to 7:25 (closings) or even now."
I have no clue what the county standard is, it`s a judgement call on there part. Our rule thumb is if the ground is hard and clumps of grass won`t be torn up we try to play.
“Who makes the final decision: FFX Co Park Authority, FFX Co Athletics, IFFL or other? If it is the County, is it an issue of them not getting to the fields early enough to notify the IFFL? And if so, would it be beneficial to have the first game start at 9:00AM to help avoid this?”
Sometime we are allowed to make the decision but when you get this amount of rain the county will come out and make the decision. The Park Authority has complete control on any final decision, they have final say over any league and or field monitors.
No we can`t start the games later we don`t have enough time slots if we want to get all the games in, that’s why we only had 32 teams and not 40 + teams this season not enough time slots.
“I am still wondering why they were canceled OR if they should have been canceled last night.”
I did not want to cancel games prior to 600am to avoid the mistake that I made in week three when we should have played. I wanted to give you guys every opportunity to play so I decided to wait till 6AM.
If it was up to me I still would have played games on LK FX and ECL.

Thanks for the additional info. I don`t know why some of these turds on here need to find out every detail and reason why fields are closed or not. Listen up turds, it`s in the best interest for the games to be played. You think Shay and Tom want to deal with your constant whining as to why games should or should not be played?
Now stop asking questions, and be ready to play in two weeks, ya turds!

In another post you said that we would have Double headers June 6th and June 13th why not stick to that schedule???
| |
|
because
May 24, 2010 10:27 AM | | ; |
it is two big of an advantage for the higher seed. Not only do they get a bye but the lower seeds would have to play a top 4 team in the second half of a double.
| |
|
The Plan
May 24, 2010 10:46 AM | | ; |
posted was to play double headers. I have made plans for the weekend of the 20th and I`m sure others have as well. How do you post that there will be double headers and we will be done on June 13th and then change the plan??? We should go with the plan that was posted!!

May 24, 2010 11:15 AM | | ; |
They already have an advantage by getting an bye. Why should they get a tired opponent as well? What else do you want, a automatic championship bid? Life is full of decisions either play or enjoy your weekend, who knows you may not be playing on the 20th anyways.

Missing the point. Shay already posted the schedule with the rainouts factored in. So people made plans thinking that the League will end on the 13th no matter what. But now Shay decides to change it once again. I also belive strongly my team will be playin on the 20th....Or 13th if it get changed back which it should

i don`t know why the schedule has been pushed back to the 20th -
the schedule had already been posted once - ending the entire spring league on the 13th

Yeah I would rather the schedule not change and the season end on June 13th, people probably planned vacations around the schedule thinking it was set...like me.

|
May 24, 2010 4:38 PM | | ; |
An email was sent to all the coaches as far as what they want to do for the playoffs.
We may do the DB header scenario and get the season over by June 13th or we may stick to the 3 week format so no team has to do a DB header for post season.
So if you want to have some input call your coach. Each team gets one vote.
The playoff schedule will be reposted by Sunday, May 29th.
One last thing we have the fields to June 27th and the season could go till then if we get more rain outs

It looks like the Spring League is ending fairly late this year. Please have all playoff teams stick around afterwards to begin the Bark Bowl. Bring lots of water.

SHAY!
May 25, 2010 9:45 AM | | ; |
Come on man don`t change it!!! Double headers and end it on June 13. Don`t make this like FXA winter league where it dragged out an extra month longer than it was supposed to. It will dilute the competition. That is why there is a schedule so people can make plans around it!!!
| |
|
May 25, 2010 11:01 AM | | ; |
To "Shay" I hear you and everyone else on this MB which has a thousand different opinions on it.
If any of you want a voice in this matte, talk to your coach he has the vote for your team.
Bottom line is the final decision will be made by the coach`s NOT me or Tom.

C`mon Man!
May 25, 2010 12:07 PM | | ; |
This is a stupid problem to have Shay. Why did you change it in the first place. It was posted all along to have a double header on June 6th if the first playoff weekend was rained out. It was....and then you post a plan B. Get it together and make a decision! A vote is not a bad way to go at this point but why the change in plans in the first place....C`MON MAN!!!!
| |
|
May 25, 2010 12:31 PM | | ; |
No, it`s not a stupid problem b/c some of the teams that had to do DB headers contacted me complaining about knowing we had the field till June 27th.
As far as the "Get it together and make a decision" little comment.
OK I`ll do that just for you, here is my decision, if you got a problem with me and the way I run this league then contact me direct don`t be a f*** coward and hide some anonymous post.
I`ll make it easy for you here is my email address shay@iffl.us
So unless you want to handle all the coach`s with all there complaints, I suggest you just relax, MAN!
How does that sound for a decsion ?

Shay and Tom have done a wonderful job taking everyone`s issues into consideration so cut them some slack guys. Like Shay said...he`s not the one making the decision, it`s the coaches from each team. Once again, he`s being respectful to the wishes of the masses. He could`ve just posted a schedule and said this is the way it`s going to be. But he didn`t and that`s not good enough for some of you.
I`ve never heard so many grown anonymous men cry before.
