I had another conversation yesterday with a coach who asked why the C division played mostly on grass this past Fall and why the A and B divisions played almost all games on turf.
I`ll admit, we do give preferential fields to certain divisions, but it has nothing to do with playing level. I look at the average number of years teams in a certain division have been playing in the league. Naturally, the "A" teams have been playing the longest. In fact, on average the "A" teams in the IFFL this year have played a larger percentage of their total league games on grass than the "C" teams.
You read that correctly. On average, a 2009 Fall "C" division team has played a larger percentage of its total IFFL games on turf than a 2009 Fall "A" division team.
So what am I getting at? The teams at the top have put in plenty of time on grass fields from 2000-2006. In fact, 3 years ago Hook Rd was the best field the Fall league had!
Field placement has nothing to do with level, and everything to do with seniority.
Hopefully next Fall we`ll be 100% turf like the weeknight league, and it won`t be an issue.
