subject: "Again: why the bottom two A teams play in B playoffs this Fall."

This question has come up a few time in the past week to me via email or in person.

Before we formed the divisions, there were two possible scenarios:

1) (like Spring) 2 Open divisions (11 teams in each) with the top 4 going to A, the next 4 going to B, and the bottom 3 playing a consolation game. This guarantees all teams 8 games.

2) One A division of 10, one B division of everyone else who would have played in Open. Top 8 in A play in the A playoffs, bottom 2 in B with the top 6 from B. Rest of B does not make the playoffs but they have 8 regular season games.

We went with scenario #2. If we had gone with scenario #1 guess what? We`d still have only 8 teams in the A playoffs and the next 8 in B. The 2 teams from A which will wind up in the B playoffs would probably still be in the B playoffs under option#1.

Because Outlaws and "new" Outcast team (who could have played in B) elected to play in A there was no need to force any bubble B teams up into A, and no need to go with 2 Open divisions.

Thanks Tom. It all equals out in the end.

Sounds to me

like it has nothing to do with wondering why things were done and more like people just want another way of labeling other teams as lesser teams. Ahhh the flag football class system.

This is a good way of having teams that are evenly matched play each other.

Also Means (6) B teams get dropped with No chance redeem their fallen record, or ego`s.

I feel sorry for the (6) that have to drop with No playoff game at all; They should have signed up for C or Novice and at least have gotten to play. Or got their money`s worth.

they should of won some more games - it makes the league more competitive and fun. I agree with the fact that only the best teams should go to the playoffs. Top 8 in A and top 8 in B should be the playoff system

Agreed

To a point: (2) teams that may be NO better than any B team listed are pushing 2 potential B teams out of Playoffs. Two A teams didn`t win anymore game`s than the six teams in B, yet the A team`s will get a shot at playoff`s.

It just seems that the two last place A teams should be dropped.

On the fence.

We never would know what would have happened to those two A teams if they had played the whole year in B. They could`ve gone undefeated and dominated or just been a middle of the pack team. I respect that they chose to take their lumps in A, but it is hard to say okay you sucked it up in A, but you are guaranteed a playoff birth in B. What stops a team that does not make the B playoffs this year from signing up and going 0 for the season in A next year just to guarantee themselves a playoff birth in B?

Who`s to say the same situation will happen next year. Remember at the beginning there were three teams in Limbo. Two went into B and the other went to A to help even things out - game wise. Stop complaining and just play ball. It seems that no matter what people or teams do to help the league run smoothly - you have guys always crying about something. Most of the guys in this league just want to play ball while others are re-living their past and others who just want a trophy. You can`t please every one.

crying.. you`re guaranteed 8 games. You`re getting 8 games. If you`re 1 and done in the playoffs are you going to cry that the winners are getting extra games?

Speaking of Crying

Take it easy on the man; I think he was just saying that it didn`t seem fair to take two teams that won nothing in a to have tehm play in B playoffs; plus drop 6 teams from B. If you ask me the two teams from A should get dropped completely and let two out of the 6 B teams battle it out.
Your basically taking two teams in B league that have at least showed up and tried and not giving them a chance in playoffs.

regardless though; the choice has been made; Teams should have complained about it sooner if they had an issue with it.

just a thought

maybe next fall, the A teams that are droppin to B playoffs should atleast have a better record than the teams they are replacing, cuz that`s truly questionable, a team can play in A just for practice all season against A teams just to get ready for b playoffs, while "b" are busting their rumps get to the B playoffs.

or a better thought

get you coaches to show up to the coache`s meeting when this kind of stuff is decided.

Honestly?

any team that wants reps against A teams can say (that ok if we don`t do well we can always grab a B playoff spot).
I loved the spring set-up, hope we go back to it.
playball goodluck.

This is stupid. Do you really think a team would forego a competitive season in B for a chance to lose every Sunday in A ? Tom does his best to keep everythng in order and you guys cry because you are a fraid of a team who is coming out of the A division. Just because they play in A does not mean that they are a TRUE A caliber team. Really?

Correct

Oct 13, 2009
12:57 PM

They aren`t a true caliber A Team so throwing them into the B playoffs, even at teh cost of other teams whom have better records get dropped. NOt an even trade.

Better records compared to what? The losing A teams played way better teams than any of the bottom B teams. It really doesn`t matter. If teams were so against it , where were they at the coaches meeting at the beginning of the year. Tom gives everyone a chance to respond.

Question

Oct 13, 2009

;
If the A teams are dropping to B Playoffs; are teh B teams dropping to C playoffs?

True

Some Teams are always crying foul when they lose. You paid for a certain number of games and you did not get in. The teams that volunteered to take a beating in A should get at least one more game if for nothing more than to make up for them helping to balance the league schedule. The option was there for anyone to move up , but you chose to take your chances in B.I am sure some of the A teams would have much rather played in the B bracket , but you would have complained about that also.Just play ball.

LOL

Nobody in A is sandbagging for B playoffs. who would risk that to take a beating every sunday? seriously?all the B teams got 8 game season everyone else got 7and if you didn`t make the top half of B you got no shot to win it anyhow. and if you did make the top half then then you should be able to compete against the bottom of the A teams because some of the teams in B beat those teams before look it up for yourself. this is plain stupid to complain about but its not United, Mutiny, Penetrators who are complaining they all play in tournys against A comp probably Truth and Chuck Norris who can only beat C teams.
