It`s amazing how the morons on this post have lost sight of the forest for the trees. The point is the rule is crap and that over 85% of those responding think the rule should be changed. Suppose I knew the rule. Does that change how bad the rule is? To defend our coach whose been in the league for more years than me; he did know the rule. I did not. However a timeout should allow for discussion of the decision and if desired a change in that decision. It makes no sense as over 85% of you have agreed. For those of you posting from the Penetrators, it sounds like you were afraid to give us one opportunity from the 10-yard line to beat you. Why?

I recommend that all teams/coaches bring up any rules they would like to see changed at the next coach`s meeting. Thats the only forum for rule changes. At the coach`s meeting we have officials, commissioners and coaches together in one place to debate the merits and vote (coaches) on rule changes.
You would be surprised at the difference between a poll (and/or consensus on the messageboard) and how coaches actually vote at these meetings. I`ve been surprised myself at issues I expected to pass that did not, and vice versa.
We can effect policy changes during the season, but not rule changes to the game - those need to be voted on at the coach`s meeting.
Also keep in mind that the more our rules differ from State rules, the tougher it will be for those teams competing in the State Tournament.

What`s the forum for state rule changes?

Focus on this...

The rule exists for a reason…. And while it may be easy for you to consider everyone else a moron before yourself, first think about this possible scenario:
The score is 14-7, and your listless teams just scored a TD, and the score is now 14-13. You have 30 seconds after your score to decide if you would like to go for 1 or 2. Since you are slightly ignorant and unaware that this league, (like most organized sports), does not have an OT during the regular season. You elect to go for 1. The opposing coach recognizes this, and still hoping to save a win, sends out his best 1-point conversion defense.
Then all of the sudden you realize you’re a moron, and you want to go for 2. In your perfect world, you’re allowed to burn a timeout and change your mind. You send out your best 2-point offense. So where does that leave the opposing head coach?? He still has his 1-point defense on the field. Does he have to use a timeout, because YOU don’t know the game? What if he doesn’t have a timeout, you’ve just gained an unfair advantage.
If you know you’re college and pro sports well enough, you’d know that your not allowed to change your mind at the expense of a timeout there either. Consider this scenario… you’re the poopy Redskins and you elect to go for two to beat a quality team, like say the Rams. On the way out to the huddle, Portis sucker punches a Ram in the back of the head, boom 15 yard personal foul before the play PAT even occurred. So would the refs allow you to burn a TO and line up for a PAT kick at the 17 yard line?
Do you still think everyone else is the moron? And by the way, your poll doesn’t count. Everyone knows that sorry Chuck Norris is the only team voting to change the rule.

Yes we agree

the rule is stupid and so are you.
1) For not knowing a tie exist. These field are rented for a certain time slot. Fairfax County doesn`t care about how your game turns out just get off that field by the time your permit runs out.
2) For letting a moron talk to the ref instead of the coach or captain. If you don`t know what your talking about then fall back and stop trying to be a leader.

My bad, so your insults were a good argument?
If you read it you`d know that the dude was calling all of the bs posts morons; not the entire league morons. He was simply trying to bring the focus back to the conversation about the rule. He clarified he wasn`t aware of the rule and CN`s coach was. He was asking about the possibility of a rule change which Tom was good enough to respond to and clarify. I think that puts it to rest.
Please, you won`t identify who you play for, so why would i.

Chuck Norris is painful.
So, because Chuck Norris is bitter they weren`t allowed to try and go for two, they are now on the warpath to have the rule changed. Nice work fellas. If you can`t win on the field, win on the messageboard!
You donkey`s fail to realize that besides not knowing the rules, you don`t know how the league is run. Rule changes aren`t made on the fly. There are coaches meetings that take place. State your beef there, and if enough coaches agree, the rule will be changed.
You, Mr. Chuck Norris coach, are a turd.

Jezus Chuck, give it up. I think the dude`s point up above is good reason why the rule exist. Now quit crying!! It`s been 2 days now. Don`t you think you look bad enough? Damn, you make me miss FIREMAN!!

what if the other team calls a timeout? can you change your decision?

okay

Calling BS here just looked at CN team page they have a few ties in past seasons so unless the coach is different every year you all knew about no OT. If you went for 2 you would be sol anyhow its obvious who it was going to at that point so be happy with your tie.

Okay for all of you folks who want to call out CN, open up and review the lessons you learned in Hooked on Phonics and try reading the original post. "To defend our coach whose been in the league for more years than me; he did know the rule. I did not." So CN coach knew there was no OT. CN coach knew he couldn`t change his mind after the decision was made.
This is a case where a guy who is obviously new to the league was asking to see if a rule could be changed. That question was answered.
So what are you calling bs on here "okay"?
So Dat Dude, what exactly was exposed?; keep running your mouth; it`s not like you count anyway.

I would like to take a moment and acknowledge the use of "window liker." I love it.
Oh, and get off of CN`s beenbags. Dude asked a question and he got his answer from Tom. I`ve been in this league for a couple years myself and I just learned that you can run a play from the 3 and it only count for 1 point. I thought the only option was to kick the FG or go for 2.
My team hasn`t had the privilege of playing in Nationals but we have played in States. The IFFL enjoyes some rule changes that other leagues in the state don`t the only problem is that when it comes time to play in States or Nationals we have to play by their rules.
So, while I agree this rule does not make sense. It is a VFFA and USFFA rule. And beleive me the more we keep our rules like theirs the better off all our teams who represent the IFFL in these tournaments will be.
