After 1 week in the books things are starting to shape up mostly the way they should. The contenders all got off to good starts. I will lay out my thoughts about the season but I will not be doing weekly picks of all the games this season. I will only do a few games of the week. This week there is no game that qualifies as a game of the week.

Reston North.

Don`t be fooled by the standings after the first week. The United ride ends this sunday and while the Titans might stay up there another week, this division winner will be decided by the Outcasts/Lions game in the last week of the season where Lions will capture this division.

Reston Central.

I see this division as a toss up between Going Deep and Lazy Sundae. Going Deep has been knocking on the door for a while and I think they get in this season and take this division. Mudd Dawgs could also be a factor if they maintain the level of play but I do not see them beating Lazy as I see Going Deep accomplishing.

Reston West.

I look at the teams in this division and see the phrase "first round playoff exit" next to each team. To be honost 4 or 5 of the teams in this division could win the division, but none of them will see the final four. I`ll go with the M-Daddies by default with the Fighting Chickens coming in second.

Reston South.

This division used to be the laughing stock of the league but not anymore. Rhinos are the clear favorites to repeat as division winners with the Larrys a very close second and the Scrubs third.

Montgomery Division.

It doesn`t take a genius to pick the Novas to win this division unless there is another good team in there with a different name. Playmakers will finish second but the Novas have not learned their lesson about playing cupcakes to get a high seed and then being unprepared for the real competition when it comes.

Final Four: Lions,Lazy Sundae,Going Deep,Rhinos

Championship: Going Deep,Rhinos

Champion: Rhinos

P.S. don`t ask me for my C league picks.

Didn`t the Rhinos go 1-2 in the Bark Bowl and get worked in the fall league? (2-7 I think)

Chris wanted to make sure you got FACTUAL information to help you when you want to write your "opinions" about the IFFL and certain teams.

I generally don`t respond on the message board but when I do I will put my name and this one I had to respond to since I think I might know a thing or two about the IFFL and the teams in this league.

Just so you know the Playmakers are an A team that has historically beaten the Novas, in DC leagues and Tournement play (but you knew that) and the MD team The Threat are a long time MD B/A level team out of Montgomery county (you knew that as well) so don`t be surprise if Novas finish 3rd this year in MD. I wouldn`t call MD such a cupcake division, and I wouldn`t be so quick to say scheduling is done to favor one team or another there are 3 guys that are part of the scheduling to include myself, so there is check and balances between us to prevent the cupcake syndrom.

As far as any team getting what you call "cupcake" schedule to get a higher seed in the playoffs well that has proven not to work in the IFFL. Just a historical FACT for you Chris, only once has a #1 seed ever won the IFFL championship in 13 years of the IFFL

Just remember any good coach or player knows seeds mean nothing cause when you get in the playoffs you have to beat the best to be the best.

So Chris you must really be just be a writer or fan that stands on the sidelines cause a player or coach in this league would never cry foul about easy schedule cause there`s no such thing in the IFFL anymore as an easy way in the playoffs to many good team even in MD or maybe I`m just reading your opinions about the IFFL scheduling and the Novas wrong, but I do enjoy your work for the most part even when it`s a little bit of a for shot to me or the league.

(1) Yes, we did get "worked" in the fall A league (especially by Kilroy Lions and NOVAs-- man were those games ugly).

2) Yes, we did go 1-2 in the Bark Bowl, although one of the loses was a second-round, triple-OT classic against eventual champs Lazy and the other was a thorough whipping by NOVAs.

So does that mean our undefeated season and spring championship last year were flukes or that we did not play up to our potential in the fall? You got me. I know what I think, but I am sure there are many who disagree. With that said, I am not going to get caught in a message board war, make any excuses for the fall or make any predictions about where we will end up this spring.

I guess we will just have to wait and see how this season plays out.

Good luck to all teams especially the rest of the old-timers in the Hook division (i.e., the Larrys and Scrubs).
