What`s up with playing in the B for States? Not trying to start anything, just wanted to understand.

The only teams required to play in the "A" tournament are the previous year`s final 8 for "B".
If defending "A" Champs Firm wanted to play in "B" this year they could.
There is no way for the VFFA or the IFFL for that matter to draw distinct lines here aside from the above.
Its the personal decision of each team as to which tournament they choose to participate in.
Besides, based on my observation during previous state tournaments - they are not even in the "top 5" of the 58 teams in the B bracket, but that has nothing to do with it.

Let me explain the "distinct lines" statement. The IFFL and FCFFL are 2 of exactly 3 leagues in the State which actually have an "A" League (and "B" etc...)
The defending "A" Champs (Firm) do not play in an A League. They play in an 18 team/2 division open league. So is Firm an "A" team for the State Tournament? of course they are. What about the rest of the teams in the VB league? The league runner-up (who finished ahead of Firm in the playoffs) is playing in the "B" tournament.
There are a few other leagues of 8+ teams in the State with undefeated champs playing in the "B" tournament. Should those teams play in "A"?
As I said, its a personal decision. Disregard the fact that we use "A" and "B" to label our leagues - that`s because of the # of teams we have.
As for the issue of them going to Nationals, well what if the Bad Boyz had opted out but Vegas Nights went instead? Vegas would have also gone 2-1 in Wheeling in that bracket.
I`ll also tell you this: some of the teams at Nationals (lower seeded Ohio teams) would lose to some of our B (not even B+) teams.
VA sends 1% of its teams to Nationals. Maryland sends 33% of its teams there.
I am not giving a personal opinion here, just want to ensure you all see things from a different perspective.

It still doesn`t sit well with a lot of teams. They are viewed as an "A" team considering they played in divisions with all "A" league teams who are in the "A" bracket for states. They finished 7-1 in that league and dropped to "B".

What do you mean???

If a team was top 3 in their division in spring, then again in fall; then top 3 or 4 in the playoffs each season, that team will have 4 eligible bids and only be able to accept one...there are a lot of successful teams like this...those other bids have to go to someone...so they get passed down the chain until someone accepts.

Again, I`m not defending their choice to play in "B" - only pointing out that you cannot point to their participation in Nationals as a disqualifier for playing in "B".
The only thing that disqualifies any team from playing in "B" is if they made the final 8 the prior year.
As to bid allocation - when you have over 100 teams playing in Fall and Spring leagues you get a lot of bids.
The same way I do not interfere with a team`s decision on which tournament to play in, I do not interfere with any team`s right to a bid, and that means if a team rejects a bid in any given league it falls to the next in line.
As far as "the money" we`re about $1,200.00 in the hole for hosting the tournament. You don`t run leagues, you don`t host tournaments, you don`t take & post thousands of game photos if you`re in it for the money. Go play in those other $450 tournaments if you want to help someone profit, but do not question my integrity on this.
In fact, the reason our leagues run as smooth as they do (for the most part) is that our own work salaries are more than sufficient to allow us the time to commit to this.

If there is anyone from the Bad Boys actually on this thread, give me a call. This is not BS, it is and could be very beneficial to your team in the upcomming seasons. If I do not answer, leave your name and # and I will call you back. Again, this is not BS! (301) 735-2501
