On November 4th make sure to vote in favor of the 2008 Park Bond Referendum, so IFFL can take advantage of possible additional synthetic fields. Lighted synthetic turf fields increase playing capacity by approximately 60% without added cost and provide a safer playing environment than natural grass. In view of the state of our economy, this may be our last opportunity for several years to convert these facilities. So, VOTE "YES" on the Park and Park Facility Bond Question on the ballot on November 4th. Follow this link for additional information on the subject visit the following Fairfax County Government website for more information http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/opa/bond/

Aren`t you removing maintence jobs in the process ? which hurts the economy by putting more people out of work.

Aren`t you at the same time wasting tax payers` dollars to pay those individuals? Which places a burdon on everyone to pick up. We are only talking about the fields. The fields will require less maintenance and thus less money for up keep. To say this will hurt the economy is far fetched. If anything, this would only generate a job shift, not a loss. Think about it this way, the money saved can be used to fund other Park and rec activities.

Most of the grass fields are is such disrepair, they are dangerous and almost unplayable. It is in everybody`s best interest to get more turf fields... I doubt anybody loses a job, regardless of how poorly the fields have been maintained in the past.

I highly doubt the county hires an invidual/s to maintain ONE field. A new turf field is lower, not zero, maintenance for the county which allows the same number of employees more time to focus on other tasks; thus creating a more efficient use of the coutny`s (an ultimatley your) dollars. They can accomplish more for less. Also, more turf field make the county more marketable, as our park system is a HUGE differentiator compared to other counties/states. More turf fields would actually create jobs in the short term for construction workers, who are very slow at the moment. Therefore, a new turf field would have a net gain for the economy, at least locally.

to VOTE, how much

does a new turf field cost?? How much does it cost to maintain?? How much does a grass field cost to maintain?? What are the pros and cons of both?? Whatever is most cost effective is the best option.

A new turf field cost on average $1,000,000.00. However it does pay for itself over time. An no going turf does not have an impact on loss of jobs. It just does not create more.

stating the cost of turf fields, sound like Obama and Biden when they talk the income they think waelthy Americans make ($300,000 - $250,000 - $200,000 - $150,000). Which is the correct price and cost to maintain??

Our current fields are all grass; the average maintenance for one field is in the range of $5,000 to $8,000 per field annually. This includes cutting, lining, and watering the fields; there is very little that can be done to prevent the rutted conditions themselves, although they are `smoothed out` every other season. In a town that has five or ten playing fields, basic maintenance alone can cost upwards of $80,000 per year. Even with this basic maintenance, the fields are often barely usable as one sport`s season ends and the next begins. Most often, there isn`t even the time to `smooth out` a field, as many sports overlap each other timewise.
The cost of the average artificial turf field ranges in price from $450,000 to $800,000 tops. The field should be installed over an existing grass field that is under the lights; the ideal site and size would be to install the field under a lighted football stadium. Installation should take place in the spring, and installation takes about four to six months to complete if installed under `ideal` weather conditions. Basically, pellets fill in the grass field, and the artificial turf is installed over the pellets, with adequate drainage an essential part of the installation process. There is a fast-growing number of companies who now install artificial turf fields; as competition increases, the price of installation of an artificial turf field decreases. Also, if you`re considering installing one turf field, you might want to check out the substantial savings you`ll incur if two or more fields are installed by the same company at the same time. Average savings for installing two or more artificial turf fields is presently in the 15% to 20% overall cost range. What some towns have experienced with having only one turf field installed is the logistical nightmare of having so many teams fighting for its use at the same times.

NO to the 2008 Park Bond Referendum. We have enough syntheitc fields and paying more taxes at this time in our economic crisis is ridiculous. Maybe I will vote YES should this come up again during the 2010 elections.

I agree

I am not voting for sheeet, until I know what it is gonna cost us up front and over the long haul. Anytime they raise taxes for a project and the project is completed they divert that money to something else that we would never VOTE on or for. Look at Delaware with all their damn tolls on 95 alone, that is a positive cash crop for that state which does not go for the roads as it was intended to. That stretch of 95 is about 11 miles and it cost about $10 to drive through. Talk about taking advantage of people, they do it well.
