I have been reading the messageboard and I have seen alot on the LIONS. We are a first year team that wants to know what makes this team tick. Why are they feared? What makes them dirty? Who are their key players? and How can they be stopped?

Great questions.

The real question is who is going to give you an honest answer? Considering there is a lot of turmoil with this team on the messageboard - you won`t really get a real assessment of these guys without someone chiming in on how dirty they are (stupid).

Honestly in my opinion- people are just jealous!

There a good team. And being a first year team you guys honestly don`t have a chance. Sorry.

Why does this **** have to be rehashed each and every week? Just look back at some other pages and you will find the answers.

Chump is jealous- that`s why the messageboard is here. To talk about teams. If you don`t like it don`t read it.

I would like to know about these LIONS.

So far, no real insight. "Player" seems as if he plays for the LIONS and chump seems as if he was beaten by the LIONS. Still no real input. Looking for ways to beat them, key players and big changes since previous years. I have seen them in action and I have seen their team photo and by the looks of it, they have lost some key players. I have been in this league for several years and this is my first year as an owner. I will leave my team name anonymous so I will not stir any animosity.

Well "Player" once again thanks for your input? If you seen them and know them, you can give some info rather than tell me, " i know them".

Well- what can I say.

Lots of speed all over the field.

WR`s are fast and catch everything thrown there way.

QB can run- his passing is a bit suspect.

RB will punish you if you rush.

Lineman can run and catch.

But that`s just there offense the problem is there defense. They will suffocate your QB and there CB`s are fast enough that if you don`t make the perfect throw - your basically turning the ball over.

The key to competing with them is short passes. Hope they miss flags. But they pitch a lot of shut outs so that`s a bit of a stretch. They have lost before though- so they are beatable.

They have only lost one key player- there best WR-knee injury at the Bark Bowl. Is the best in the league.

Ok, here is the breakdown:

Trying to slow the game down and limit possessions is a problem b/c they have a great defense (maybe the best in the league). Although it can keep the score close, it means you have to convert on the few chances you have, and usually they shut offenses down.

If you try to get in a track meet with them, it`s tough, b/c they have so much team speed. They have guys that score from anywhere on the field and they are very organized.

The weakness they seem to have, ironically, is themselves. They are almost impossible to beat during the regular season, but when the pressure is turned up, they always crack. I think they are 0-5 in championship games.

How can you beat them? Let them beat themselves.

They have lost 1 or 2 guys. They used to play tight man and a very aggressive rush. You must find a way (super mobile qb? throw to linemen? keep guys in? pick plays?) to try and account for their quickness.

On offense, they are not particularly creative, featuring standard pass routes/not a lot of razzle, though last year they were trying to lateral a lot so NEVER give up on a play/they might toss one to you. Typically you do not have to worry about their linemen as big pass catching threats.

I would try to control the clock with a nickel and dime approach to offense, use your linemen, get your qb on the run. On defense, favor pressure over concern for their linemen as pass catching threats. I have not played against them in about a season, so my apologies if this is no longer accurate.

Thanks everyone for your insights. I have seen them play in last years Bark Bowl. They are not using the same QB this spring. In the Bark Bowl they looked great, Strong WR crew and a solid QB, from the team picture, i think it was number 2. I did not see him this spring on the team, wonder if he is available in the free agency market? Defensive, from what is written i believe its based on the Pass Rush. Overall, this season i have seen them play both games against average teams and it wasn`t even close. They don`t seem as crisp offensively, due to the loss of the QB and WR but they are the team to beat. Good Luck Lions and any info on ex-QB, if "available" for pick up would be nice.

#2 has a good arm, but not the worlds greatest game management skills. If that veteran qb that posted a message earlier this week is still around, he is WAY better...

good luck. Focus on running time off the clock, moving the chains, being smart. They are a great team, mostly good guys (ignore the crap you read)and tough to beat.

Reasons

There are reasons why people get kicked off this team.

The coach is very conscious about the attitudes that stay on the team.

No.2 is a waste of time and is not a polished QB- hence why he is gone.

There old QB (No.1) is solid and will be with them again in the fall from what I have heard.

So will there no. 1 WR (No. 84).

There getting older - but still very strong. There due. Good guys also- dont let the haters full you.

The only reason why I asked about the QB is that I have played at the college level and coached high school, never had the privilege to be associated with any professional teams but been able to overlook some scouting work. I saw both of the QB`s that Kilroys had that Bark Bowl and I was quite impressed with #2`s arm strength and accuracy. I don`t know anything else about him but from an experience eye, I can see him not being polished enough for a pro or even college aspect. But this is Fairfax Flag Football and he looked better than what I have seen out there today. I do not quite understand the game management concept at this level, there isn’t a game clock that is visible, nor professional refs, instant replay, so it really comes to play calling and execution. Maybe he didn’t speak English but besides that point anything else could be worked on. The hard part has always been finding the talent. In this position (at this level only) your arm and speed is the only two assets really needed. Composure does not really play the part due to a lack of media that will enhance pressure, so please understand what level of football is being played and accept it. In my opinion he was a solid player at his position for this level of Flag Football. I was also impressed with the Kerns QB. I would pick up either one if the opportunity is available. Just post a time that we could meet on Sunday and an email address. Once again thanks for the advice everyone.

Its hard to find a team with totally stable mentalities...you get lots of guys that want to "show you their skills", guys that insist on going deep, etc. If you have a stud line, a stud qb and one or two stud wr`s (ie: My Plumber of the glory years), let it fly. Most teams have a hard time dealing with the pass rush consistantly, so "7 yards and a cloud of dust" is often the best strategy. That is what I meant by game management: diagnosing what the D is giving and taking it. He has a fine arm, but tends to force throwing it deep (I would too if I had his arm). Not trying to compare flag to higher levels competition, but with everyone elligible and double passes and no downfield blocking, etc., certain approaches are better "time tested".

I enjoy the civil conversation...more x`s and o`s posts please!

Gotta agree. This is not a qb dominated league but a team league. Past champs: Rhinos, Raiders (both of them), Sharks, NOVA`s, etc. were organized and smart...egos are poison.
