too many va teams play in the MD league....unless those Va teams that play in MD play for the MD all stars....VA would win hands down

I think MD would come out on top and here`s why...
There are too many VA teams to pick from with too many styles of play thus polluting the game plan. Maryland who no doubt has talented players has less teams with similar game styles resulting in a quicker cohesivness.

We always seem to have problems with running an all-star game. The idea itself is great, the logistics are horrible.

Voting is a mess, because we won`t get anywhere near complete participation (even from a coaches-only vote) so the results are skewed.

Almost half of the starters voted in can`t or will not show for the game. We wind up with two teams of whoever can show, not players voted in.

If something came up, a player is more likely to just bail on an all-star game than a team game - after all who will notice? who will care? what are the reprecussions?

As it is our resources for field space are stretched. This game would require a single day after the season ends.

Finally, at the end of the season - we (myself and Rob) are ready for a break until the summer tournaments and Fall Leagues.

Last year I advised teams that I could get the field space and officials for it, if two coaches wanted to organize it themselves.

Well, at a minimum you could have the voting and just announce the teams. That way the guys voted in could get an ego boost.

Al, once we move into the Fall and more players start logging in - I`ll add more features like this into the site. I should have the coaches/computer/writers poll working by next week.

Good thought. Any thoughts about moving towards a login required board?

BTW, I`m curious. Do you do all the site development? I`ve noticed all the VA IFFL sites use the same interface for their web sites.

Yes, its all my code and all the DBs are interlinked. The individual commissioners can customize their sites to a certain extent. You or someone had posted about using commercial or shareware for the league management but I like to keep it this way in order to make things more user-friendly for the other commissioners - some of who do not have as much experience with computers or the web. Plus this really is only the groundwork for an even more ambitious project.

On requiring login, I don`t want to go in that direction - but might add a "logged-in only" board. Every season things get heated on the board, maybe tending towards getting out of hand - but everything settles down in the end, with ot without a little push here and there.

I understand where you`re coming from on that, but how much back end is there really for a commissioner to do? A thought I would have going forward if you`re moving towards a bigger project would be setting cookies to remember a logged in status, even if I`ve navigated away from the page. Among other things, but that`s one that always gets me :)
