waste of time... 6 weeks, 2 games, but all the weekends wasted.. FFX sucks. Do the park people know that we all are stuck in the area to see if we are going to play?

Signal Hill league and Arlington county league both play no matter the weather. For those people that like to keep a schedule.

If any teams are serious about dropping and getting a partial refund + not pay the third installment, please contact me. I am not suggesting that teams do this, but if yours really wants to we will accomodate you.

I know going 3 weeks between games is frustrating, but at least its not like 2006 where many teams went 4 weeks (rain, easter, rain) between games.

I am going to retool the schedule again for this week to ensure that if we get some rain next weekend, teams with fewer games played get priority (Lake Fairfax & Hook) scheduling.

Hang in there, we`ve been here before - we will get the games in.

As for the free advertising for other leagues on this board - removed.

By the way, we (not sportplex) run the FCFFL weeknight league (18 teams) which plays on turf at lake Fairfax MON-WED and has not had any games cancelled due to weather. This is a problem unique to playing on grass fields in the Spring. Sometimes a season goes smoothly, every once in a while we get a season like this.

thanks

I agree. We pay good money to use these fields and pay for their upkeep, and from hearing stories they don`t even get mowed. That`s piss poor in my eyes.

STOP CRYING

Apr 27, 2008
7:13 PM
;
You people are babies. If the games get cancelled on Saturday night...and it`s sunny on Sunday, then you cry that we should have played. Tom and the league try their best to wait until the last minute to cancel games, hoping that games can be played. It`s the county that cancels the games because of the field conditions. IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THE LEAGUE, Tom holds out hope we can play. It`s a no win situation, so stop crying. Tom is doing everything he can to help us play on Sundays.

They let the soccer and lacrosse play in those conditions

BC#1 & BC#2 were listed as closed, and games cancelled (for the afternoon) on the Reston Soccer website yesterday - so anyone using those fields (with a permit) risks getting their permit pulled.

The whole reason our league got BC#1 and BC#2 many years ago is that the league that had the permit for Sunday morning used the fields when the County had closed them. The County pulled all of their permits.

One season we went ahead and ran games when the fields were a little wet, because the signs were not flipped to closed. The County people came out during the first games and closed the fields, plus we got a stern warning from the County the next day. Now, they come out early enough for us to inform teams instead of 30 minutes before the games start. (Some of you will remember those days)

Ideally, we`d like to have more turf fields or fields that do not close as quickly, but in the Spring football does not get priority scheduling - never has. We do in the Fall.

We only have the field space we do because of the longevity of our league and a good relationship with Parks and Rec. We`ve had Hook Rd. since 1994 (though this is RA and not the County). Everyone pays for fields, but in many cases there is simply not any field space available to pay for. For now, we do not have any other options to take the place of Herndon or BC. Next Spring, when more turf fields are available, maybe this will change.

Thanks

Tom for your explanation and dedication to getting us to play our games despite the negative comments...I look forward to our next game...

I`ve played in many different sports leagues and coached kids in the area as well. What Tom and this league have been able to do is tremendous and I think everyone needs to lay off him.

Everyone in this league chips in maybe $50-100 a person (or even less) to be able to play in a league that spans multiple high quality recreational fields over a period of 2-3 months. These fields are hard to come by, and we should be thankful to even be able to be playing on the fields that we do.

Everyone who is complaining should see what it`s like to be in a less organized league, or less established league where you have to fight with the county week in and week out just to be able to play or coach sports on grass clumped dirt fields at elementary schools before they start complaining here. The mere fact that we even have these fields is a blessing. And you`re gonna blame Tom or the County for the fact that mother nature is unfair to us on our once a week gameday? Suck it up. My kids` teams don`t cry as much when their games are cancelled.

And regarding the county...you can say what you want about fields being closed...but take this into consideration. If it rains 4 consecutive weeks and we go out there in the muddy fields and play in our cleats (16 200 lb men running around for 4-5 hours a day)...those fields will be ripped to shreds. It will take months to resod all the fields properly and so yea, we get to play our 5-6 games NOW...but we lose all of our fields for the next season or two. Does that sound like a good tradeoff?

If you`re new to this league and you don`t like how this season has panned out, I dare you to go play in other leagues and see how crappy it is.

Thanks Tom.

Tom can`t control the weather. And the other leagues around here stink. Fredericksburg had a field where after two games in the dry looks like dunes. Yet they played regardless of weather. At the end of the season, it was BAD.

Tom is doing a fine job, and we need to be encouraging of that.

I have no complaints in regards to the weather and games having to be canceled. The only concern I have is with the rain line and the updating of the fields less than 40 minutes before a 820 kickoff. Perhaps when the weather is an issue that morning, we can impose a delayed starting time for the first game? Maybe push it back to an 845 start? The majority of the fields we use are in the reston area...and that`s not too nearby for some of us.

What do you think Tom?

Problem

Apr 28, 2008
7:06 PM

With the scheduling that the county does, we aren`t the only ones on the fields. After the last game, the next sport is ready to go. So pushing back start times isn`t an option. THats part of the reason why there is no overtime in the regular season.

Sorry that you`re coming so far. Suggestion what our team does is set up a phone tree. And have someone hang out and watch the message board.

Hopefully we`ll play this week.

So we`re all gettin along?
