this is how you beat magnums.
they dont have very good qb. you can easily bate him and force him to throw the ball and try and rip the int.
they like to run the option with #9. if you see him in the backfield, send someone to clear him out the picture because then youll just have to worry about their qb.
their d is ok. there blitz from all different angles but secondary is weak. take advantage of that

Read the last few posts on passing and stuff. One recurring theme: take what the defense is giving you. Most teams in this league give you the short stuff. TAKE IT!

I have seen them make mistakes. Their line is suspect. If you do a good job as a decoy, you can sack the qb. Always keep them in front of you and have the qb roll to his left, when he throws against the grain, you have an easy pick. This goes for most teams in this league. Oh yeah, yes I get burned but, I have a bad ankle and still managed too pick them off many times.

Diesel likes to run the wishbone formation. They like to do a lot of trick plays i.e. statue of liberty and flea flickers.
On defense they like to bend but not break.

Ah, da wolves. Well, on offense they run the spread, and they run it well. They typically have 1-2 guys each play in a position to HAMMER anyone that rushes up the middle. QB is a decent thrower but a much better runner/decision maker. Play man, since the razzle they will run in the backfield will take up so much time it will make zone useless. Put your best speed-size guys on their "slegehammers" in the backfield (the load short dude and the blond haired speed rusher, typically). ATTACK THEM VICIOUSLY AS SOON AS THE BALL IS SNAPPED. go after the qb with your quickest player, who has to be quick but controlled/less aggressive than the other guys. If you hit their "escorts" before your rusher gets to the qb, you will do fine. Otherwise, you are dead. Defensively, dey good. They typically dont play a safety and they almost always play man. so, their achilles heel will be: 1)if you bring wr`s in to block, their db may be "wasted" waiting to see if he goes out=more pass protection 2)slants=touchdowns if you can beat their dbs (good luck...not easy). 3)shallow crosses with pick plays can be money. remember, against man you can manipulate them to leave one side of the field open so a 5 yard crossing route can go the distance. 4)delayed routes to guards can succeed if you have a crafty, calm qb.
It takes some smarts, but unlike zone defenses there are no gimme`s against the Wolves and at somepoint you simply have to beat them, and thats tough. If you can solve the spread, they have a very average offense otherwise.
Good luck...

How about some of the teams that are newer such as Pain and Outlaws? (Diesel`s been covered, but feel free to include them as well.)

vs Outlaws
May 22, 2007 3:00 PM | | ; |
Outlaw has probably the best QB in the league (if it’s the QB from Dietz Nutz). #7 is not bad either but tends to run more then he does throw. They have average receivers. They can make big catches but drop the easy ones. #2 the little asian dude is shifty but nothing special. They do have a very good O line.
If the Napolean Dynamite is playing QB, make sure you get in his face because he can throw the ball low at times and it will be 3 and out. If you give him time, he will pick anyone apart. If #7 is QB, you do not have to be too aggressive on D line. Containment is key. You rather him throw the ball then run with it.
Their Defense is the reason why they are 5-2. The holes are there but you have to find it. Probably have one of the best rusher in their division next to Wolves.

vs Pain
May 22, 2007 3:10 PM | | ; |
Pain is a young team that’s starting to develop into a contender. They have size but slow, They have a few athletic receivers but the down fall to their O is their QB. QB is not very experience and very easy to rattle. Three key guys to cover when they are on O. Little Dre, very fast, very shifty and has very good hand. #21 is one of their go to guys. Also have to watch Reggie the big man with hands. Not sure what number he is but do not let this guy out of your site. To beat them, just make sure you pressure the QB. He will not be able to make plays when he is rattled.
They have a pretty solid defense. A lot of big guys in the background which makes it harder for a smaller team to pass the ball on. They aren’t the fastest team but they are discipline. They do not have the best rusher so take advantage of that.

|
vs Diesel
May 22, 2007 3:28 PM | | ; |
This team relies on their defense. They are very disciplined and will not leave their zone. They have enough athletes in the secondary to cover just about any thing thrown pass 10 yards. There are two weaknesses on this D, their rushers and flag pulling abilities. They have been getting better at flag pulling but in the beginning of the season they couldn’t pull a flag to save their lives.
Their O is getting better and better every week. Whoever said they run the wishbone formation is probably just being silly. They run the traditional offense with 4 wide outs. Their team is stacked on WR’s. All of them can catch and run. If you give #7 time, he will pick you apart. They have a very soft O line so it’s not too hard to get pressure on him. He is a great runner but does not know when to use his feet.

|
vs Novas
May 22, 2007 6:33 PM | | ; |
They are a good team, because they dont make a lot of mistakes. However, they are not very aggressive so take advantage:
On offense, they often pack in extra blockers and sneak the center out/etc. BLITZ!!!! rush more people. Their qb is good, but like most tends to throw it up under pressure. When in trouble, they often do a throw-back pass to the qb. They are one of the few teams that throw short outs, and like to do so on big downs.
Defensively, they are smart. They rush hard and play a very soft zone...one of the softest in the league. If your qb has any arm at all, you can run hitchs and outs on them all the way down the field...and they will let you b/c the never give up big plays. Near the goal line, they typically switch to man and blitz like mad.

vs Lazy
May 22, 2007 7:17 PM | | ; |
Havent seen them with ?Sef? at qb, so not sure how their offense is now. Typically they feature big `ol boys blocking and fairly aggressive routes. Their linemen didnt used to be pass threats/not sure if that is still the case. If you play zone, consider 4 in the box with frequent bliztes. Rush wide and contain. Play off, since (last year, anyways) they dont nickel and dime much.
Defensively, yet another soft zone team that smart, patient teams should have no problem moving the ball against if you have a qb that can throw a 7 yard out. They give it to you/TAKE IT

vs Rhinos
May 22, 2007 8:45 PM | | ; |
Dont get enough credit for being smart and flexible. Better athletes than years past, but still no one that scares you. Their best players are the big guys that play in the box. They have a good qb that is mobile and doesnt throw stupid picks. If you prioritize containing him, he is much, much less dangerous/very average, actually. Be ready for: Option play Spread offense (break down/dont go for fake) Razzle plays to the linemen. Most likely, the best defense is the same ol` aggressive rush/soft zone that everyone runs. He cant kill you with deep outs, so you wont get nickel and dimed too much.
Defensively, I didnt see them this year but the play a little more aggressively than the NOVAS and LAZY, and most importantly they mix things up: Occasionally play man, occasionally put 4 in the box and mix up who blitzs, but mostly play a zone but with dbs that arent as deep. They can be out "athleted" if you have a good wr and passing qb. Odd are their linemen and LBs are better than yours, so junk to the line is risky. If you have a very fast qb, however, you can turn the corner on them. Basically, with their balance I cant tell you how to attack them without knowing what your strengths are (unlike Lazy/NOVAs/Wolves who are much more predictable).
Lastly, they are a smart team so you can play the clock game: be patient, get 7 yards at a time and let them have 7 yards at a time. They will take it, which means good clock management can give you an extra possesion.

Most underrated part of the game: clock management. If you are smart on both sides of the ball, you can get an extra possession pretty frequently.

I`ve noticed in some of the Lazy`s games that they have been winning the turnover wars. They have been getting interceptions this spring from their CB position, which has been alot better than usually. They always seem to at the right place at the right time lately. They will have their work cut out for them in the playoffs though. Can`t wait to see some of these interesting match ups.

novas scouting report
May 23, 2007 9:09 AM | | ; |
the above report on the novas is totally wrong:
offense is very diverse. option is their bread and butter, but they will adjust and expose your defense`s weaknesses, and if you leave open the long pass, they`ll take it and bury you. best way to beat it is pressure the qb as much as possible, he`s smart, and can scramble fairly well. but messing w/ the qb`s timing is the best way to slow them down, b/c eventually, one of their receivers or linemen will be open.
defense is a bend but don`t break. yeah, they may give up the short stuff, but they are great flag pullers esp their linebacker, and its difficult to move the ball on them unless you have some real athletes. they rarely give up the big play, and are tough to score on at the goal line. to say they`re not aggressive is totally wrong. their linemen rush hard, and get great pressure on qb`s, especially if their big boys are out there.
the novas might be one of the smartest teams in the league, they know how to manage the clock and get the most out of their possessions. very tough team to beat.

Not sure how that was much different than what I said...but hey, a second opinion never hurts. When I say not aggressive, I am talking about their dbs: they never give up big plays, I have never seen them bite on a double move, etc. And they will give you the 7 yard out almost every time.

Stay focus, and don`t fall into their talking trash game. Play ball, and eventually they will lose their cool. Or, with a little time during the game the VA refs will give you the game, b/c they goning to piss them off at some point of the game, and then it`s smooth sailing from then on. And once the refs are on your side that will cancel them out all together!!! ha..ha..

I dont think its that hard to move the ball on them if you are smart. It has been said here a dozen times: TAKE THE SHORT STUFF, ie 7 yard outs and curls

|
how to beat the novas
May 23, 2007 6:48 PM | | ; |
1- lineman release plays when you release both 2- swing pass if your RB is fast 3- QB scrabble 4- mix up the rush 5- shadow the QB 6- when RB is in the backfield take him out hard (avoid double pass) 7- play your linebacker 3 steps back to cover quick slant 8- hit those mother****ers hard when they catch a pass and pull the flag (WR are soft *****es) 9- and most important force them out of timing routes with the blize

re: how to beat novas...
May 23, 2007 7:55 PM | | ; |
Well you can’t hit the receivers since it is flag... I know if someone hits me when I run a crossing route over the middle the very next play i am cutting your ass NCAA style. As a former collegiate receiver that was how we got our paybacks in and trust me that **** does hurt. (No I am not a Novas player I just think if it is flag keep it that way none of us wear pads for a reason.)

vs Larrys

Speed...they are slow. You can kill them if you have 1-2 fast guys and a qb that can throw at all. The guy you HAVE to watch is the bald lineman...he is surprisingly fast, and when in a bind they will do a double pass to him.

The one thing that gets lost in all of these "reports" is that teams play each other differently. Every team has 1-2 habits, but for the most part veteran teams play differently game to game. You would need to tell us your style before we can give you advice on how to play your opponent. Then again, its just flag.

What is the word on Mutiny?
| |
|
vs Mutiny
May 24, 2007 9:11 AM | | ; |
The best part about Mutiny’s defense is their rush. Their secondary is mediocre and the safety is pretty weak and short. Take advantage of that. So if you have a QB that does not get rattled easily then you will be fine.
Their offense if less then mediocre. Recievers tend to drop easy passes but can catch the hard ones so don’t sleep. They love to through the ball deep to the asian receiver because he can be quick but his hands are suspect like the rest of their WR crew. Mutiny’s QB can make terrible mistakes if pressured.
