Question

For the first 5 games of the year we had been told that, after a TD, you could try for 2 from either the 3 or 10 yard line. If you RUN it in from the 3 it`s worth 2, if you pass it`s worth 1. Scoring either way from the 10 will get you the 2.

Yesterday we were told the ONLY way to get 2 is to go from the 10. We were told if you run OR pass from the 3 it`s only worth 1 point.

What`s the CORRECT rule? And why is there confusion among refs?

anything from 3yrd is 1, anything from 10 is 2. Confusion probably `cause the rule changed relatively recently - too much confusion if there were a pass behind the line of scrimmage and then a run, etc... So, there you have it (or not).

I think Tom needs to hold Ref schools each year. The rules changes acccording to each one`s interpretations.

What is the offical rule on placement of the ball. Is it where the flags of the person are or is it where the ball is? EG: If the football crosses the goaline before the flag is pull, did the person get the TD or is he down?

I know about this, it happened in Maryland. The officials there also do the Arlington league where it is allowed - hence the confusion. To make matters more confusing, until this year (it was just voted in last Winter) - the VFFA rules did not have a 2 point conversion from the 10. To get 2 you had to run it in from the 3.

A two point conversion is run or pass from the 10. A one point conversion is run/pass/kick from the 3.

From the IFFL Rulebook

2 POINT CONVERSION-
When lined up at the 10yd line run/pass = 2pts.
When lined up at the 3yd line run/pass/kick = 1pt
-----
Unfortunately, this has not been enforced by the refs. I can think of at least 2-3 occasions this season where our team has converted a 2-point play by running the ball from the 3 yd. line.

The way I`ve heard it many times is that the FLAGS have to cross the goal line in order for it to be a TD...not the ball.

REFS .. i play in the C League .. and im just wondering if we can get some better refs to ref our games because these refs miss ALOT of calls .. i count maybe more than a dozen times where during a play .. a player catches a ball .. and then runs .. and then he swipes the defenders hands out of the way when they are about to grab his flag .. and maybe most of the times .. you hear a loud SLAP .. and i turn to the refs .. and the refs tell me they didnt see it .. honestly .. when you hear a SLAP .. that kind of means something .. the refs in my school turkeybowl tournaments ref better than these guys

You need to tell those MD refs that you can not kick for 2 points. They allowed that about 3 times last sunday.

The rules make sense: anything from the 3 is worth 1 point (run, pass, kick). Anything from the 10 is worth 2 points (run, pass).

Glad the confusion is cleared up now, before the playoffs.

(The strange thing was that we`ve been going for 2 every now and then from the 3 yard line, trying to run it in, in the first 5 games. But now we`re all clear.)
