What is the most important position on a team?

Witess12:13 PM

IF you were going to recruit a player for a team what would be the most important position to fill first.

QB12:14 PM

always QB

Off and Def line12:15 PM

Linemen are still the most important. a great pass rush disrupts any offense, and a great blocker will give a halfway decent qb plenty of time to make a play.

Best Available12:17 PM

but all things being equal I`d go:
1) QB
2) K
3) MLB
4) C
5) OL

WRs and DBs in this league are a dime a dozen. That`s not to say that the good ones aren`t worth having, but more depends on your system on offense and defense.

answer12:17 PM

it always has to be a QB one you have a solid QB, building a team around him would be fairly easy.

true12:19 PM

1) QB
2) OL
3) MLB
4) WR
5) C

vet12:21 PM

its obviously qb.

After that, good luck finding a center who can snap it 10 yards. There are a couple and that makes a big difference.

A dominant WR with such and open field is huge.

Defensively, one stud lineman can be huge.

Diesel 712:28 PM

I think it starts with OL. No matter how good a QB is...can`t do shiet without a line.

OL gets my vote for most important position.

Then you have to have receivers that can catch. QB can throw perfect passes all day, but if his receivers can`t catch...then there will be a big problem on O.

Kickers are very important too. I think they set the tone of the game. 1 missed field goal can determine a lost or a win.

Diesel 712:30 PM

Almost forgot about Defense:

D line. If you have a beast rushers are QBs worst nightmare.

Diesel 712:32 PM

Dayam I need hooked on phonics

I meant to say...beast rushers are QB`s worst nightmare

hmmm12:53 PM

in the meantime, please stop posting

Rhinos92Locs1:04 PM

I think everyone agrees it starts with the QB and then after that it`s up for debate. You can have the best defense, OLine and WRs in the world but if you have a terrible QB it`s like having a 5 year old driving a Bentley. Your QB, the smart ones atleast, also effect your defense. With proper clock management they can give your defense all the rest in the world by keeping them off the field. I love when that happens.

United 221:12 PM

It all starts with the OL, then the DL. Finding some big, strong, agile men to block (i mean acually give you about 4-5 secs with the ball in QB`s hands, consistely) VERY RARE in this league. Then on the other side, with a strong DL. Opponent QB has no time, what more can you ask for. Any kid can throw 5-20 yards, and if you cannot catch a football, you shouldn`t be playing football.

OL/DL1:16 PM

Come on folks, the game is won in the trenches. I don`t care if you are Peyton Manning but if there`s no blocking up front to give you a good 3-5 seconds to scan the field, you might as well run like Michael Vick.

A good line will make any QB Peyton Manning.

Same goes with D Line. If you have a pass rush, your CB`s only need 3 seconds to lock down which is plenty of time.

Rhinos92Locs1:31 PM

Clarification, if we`re talking about the NFL, yes I`m starting off my team with a beast left or right tackle. For NFL purposes, yes, I`m building around my OLine/Dline.

For Flag Football, it`s all about the QB.

Duff Beer1:57 PM

Gotta say having the linemen is critical. If you have a good line and a decent QB you can get by.

1) O-line/D-line both equally critical
2) QB
3) K (being able to make the PA can determine a games outcome)
4) FLAGPULLERS (This sums up the defense)

Hmmm1:59 PM

Whomever puts a Kicker as one of their top 5 spots is smoking crack.

Another Vet2:18 PM

I wouldnt start with one, but eventually you will need a kicker. In the meantime, find yourself an athlete who can play RB, WR or DB who can also kick. It makes life a lot easier knowing the XP is a lock and/or he can hit a 20-30 YD FG. I have seen too many playoff games lost due to a missed XP or no chance at a 20-30 yd FG. This problem has been somewhat mitigated by the commishes with the advent of going for 2 from the 10 yd line. The other problem is there are very few good kickers around.

Center2:47 PM

QB and C. They are the only 2 players garaunteed to touch the ball on every play. If you suck at one of them, it will likely result in a negative play, and a bad center can kill a good play before it begins, regardless of the skill of the other 17 players on the field.

Agree with Center2:56 PM

The center may end up being the one guy not covered. A good Center can almost always find you 7-10 yards.

shawn taylor4:14 PM

SAFETY!!!!!!!!!!!

Little Center8:51 PM

Center is the key to the team.

WP#219:52 PM

first is the center and then offensive lineman .. then QB .. it all starts in the trenches .. but also .. find smart players

Best Available08:07 AM

Well, then gimme some more crack!

If you don`t know the value of a good kicker, then you either haven`t ever had one or know plenty of soccer players. I put kicker #2 after QB in flag football because they put points on the board. A good kicker can salvage a stalled drive. Some kickers in this league have hit FGs in excess of 50 yards and your better ones can convert a drive that stalls inside the 30.

Best Available08:10 AM

Theres also the field position thing too. Nothing beats the look on the faces of the deep men on a return team when the kickoff goes over their heads and out of the endzone, or the nervousness of the opposing QBs face when he`s stranded at his own 3 yard line because the return man muffed the kickoff.

All Around Athletes09:01 AM

Yes a QB is a must... but generally the team that wins consistently is the team with the most all-around athletes.

Having a beefy OL in nice, but generally that`s all they can do... Fast 180 lb WR`s are great, but are no use to you on either side of the Off/Def line.

You get a team full of interchangeable players, not necessarily great at one thing, but good at all things.. and you`re instantly competitive. (Lions/Wolves, United, Rhinos and Lazy are great examples just to name a few.)

dline and oline10:07 AM

alot of people can throw the ball, hike the ball, catch the ball. it takes certain skill, strength/speed to be effective on the lines.

Sorry O & D line12:07 PM

But is would have to be the player with the most responsibility which equals QB, Ex. should a lineman miss his block for whatever reason. QB still has the burden to make a play, find the open WR get the ball where it needs to be so the WR can make a play on the ball, all the while trying not to get sacked my the DL running loose because the lineman missed his block. Most flag C & B teams use their line to block. Some good or most A teams can use their lineman to catch a few passes. However very few if only a couple of teams will use the O-line to throw. As far a D line, just take your fastest guy let him rush, should be able to get around a fat slow guy all day.

In Flag ball QB is #1.

Contact football? can`t really do jack without either.

All Around Athletes12:25 PM

I agree with the guy above.. I`m no OL linemen in anyone`s book... only experience was pop warner.. but yet, the times I`ve played OL in FF (and quite often), the DL I`m lined up against has never gotten a sack. Am I great lineman? No.. its just that I`m barely quick enough, and barely big enough to get in the way and slow guys down for 5 seconds (if you want a pancake, go to IHOP!!). With the blocking rules in our FF league, I think good OL are pretty available.

D line is slightly different.. you need a rare mix of speed, strength and crazy. Probably a job more thankless than O-line b/c you get beat up all day, still have to bring pressure on the Q, rarely get sacks, and get yelled at by your team the minute you lose Q containment (so what if you were blocked in the back?). And on the rare occaissions you get to the Q, guess what? Roughing the passer.

But still, QB is priority #1, then I go after crazy D-linemen.

do the math12:48 PM

if you have a qb that is waterbug-quick, then you dont even need anyone to block (there have been several teams that have run that offense) and you must rush 2 people, at least, to contain him. that means as soon as the ball is snapped, someone is open immediately. qb rules the day.

dline6:48 PM

qb is important but not the most important. you can get by with an average qb. what makes a dline more important that he doesn`t need anybody to make a differnce. from the snap its u vs anybody in ur way to get the sack. with the qb its all about u having time and players that can catch. qb`s can`t win games scrambling all day. an if they they do then they aren`t really a qb. know what i mean?

dline6:51 PM

true bout all around athletes. dline get the sh*ty end of the stick. if you don`t get a sack on every play then you will have alot of idiots on your team thinking they can do a better job. but you won`t see those guys on the line cause they want the glory of catching a ball in the end zone.

Coach12:44 PM

The QB is most important player on the team. He in this case has to lead the team. People get hot headed and the QB needs to keep them under control.

just try and play QB8:41 PM

Just play QB., for a few snaps, and then come back to this blog. What you change your mind already, play the postion then come talk your smack.

Center`s Rule9:16 PM

Try and snap the ball to the QB. Then have some guy that is 300lbs come and try and take your head off. The play never gets off without the center.

FAT BOY9:38 PM

Any one can play QB if you can throw 15 yrds. If you have a good line. Do you remember Mark Rippen. He sucked big time. THey still won and why great line.

Please!!10:01 PM

Name one true 300lb plus "Flag Football Player" that`s worth a damn! In this league! Even if there was such a player I`m certain he won`t be taking any heads off! To fat and out of shape to move!

O yeah! Fat Boy, you could never throw the ball as far or accurate as Rippen, Maybe a anyone can QB if they can throw 15yds, but a GOOD QB can throw a 15-20 yard out route, on a rope! Something tells me you can`t with out getting pic`d off.

2 please04:49 AM

I can snap the ball that far and can throw little bitc** like you even futher.

vet06:32 AM

I cant tell you how many guys bragged about what great qb`s they were, and would come out and whip the ball around before the game...then during the game flat out sucked. That`s why there are so many running qbs...its makes the position a lot easier. There are a very small number of qbs that can make the throws, manage the game, perform under pressure...very few indeed. Next is a dominant pass rusher or center.
I love these endless arguments...

Yeah Yeah07:19 AM

I just love how everyone gets on the board and says "what they can do" or "how good they are". Like it really matters? This is flag football! Nobody cares, There won`t be any highlights of you long snapping on ESPN.

The "Vet" has is right, but if talking about themselves makes lineman feel better ,then post away. However, in the end a teams offense is measured based on their QB`s talent.

Yeah x308:16 AM

Start with a good QB. A QB is a lot like a pitcher in baseball. Right or wrong he gets saddled with the wins and losses. I dont care how good of a passer or runner he is (or how "great" everyone thinks he is) if he doesnt win games. That is all that matters. As Vince said..."if winning wasn`t important then why do we keep score..."

Doctor10:27 AM

centers are important in the nfl and college but not in flag. nobody can line up against the center and usually he never gets covered. that`s probably one of the easier positions. qb`s cry too much.

mags262:57 PM

some of you guys are pretty bad with your logic, QB is by far the most important position. Yes, o-line is important and in fact THE most important position in the NFL, but not in flag. saying mark rippen was good b/c of his line and therefore anyone in this league with a good line will be good is absurd - hes a NFL quarterback, for gods sake. if you think you have 1/10th the skill of anyone in the NFL your insane.

In this league and any like it, the QB will always be the most important. you need someone that is smart and can perform under pressure. Even if you have a fantastic arm, that has nothing to do with what happens when you`re in the actual game - people are rushing you and your WR are covered and adjusting their routes. like people have said on here previously, its all about what you do under pressure and game management as the qb.

any player on a team that has lost his qb knows this from experience, how important the QB is. look at my team this year - we were coming on strong last year and our QB blew his ACL on the last play of the semifinals. we`re still competitive (and i give our back up a ton of credit for working hard), but having someone that knows how to play QB separates the great teams from the middle of the pack. its definitely the most important spot.
