Is it legal to blindside hit a defensive player behind the line of scrimmage?

blind side? you can`t hit them in the back.

Say a d lineman is chasing a qb behind the line of scrimmage, and the qb runs towards the sideline and has the defender chasing his back can an o lineman turn around and hit the d lineman but from his front side not his back.

interesting question...wouldn`t it be considered downfield blockign if the qb is out of the pocket?

No and it is ok to hit behind the line pocket or not.

its called a crack back. Run the option to the right, have your slot step back remaining in the backfield and clobber the DE chasing the play.
