RULE 7- THE SCRIMMAGE,SNAPPING,HANDING,AND PASSING THE BALL

17.After the huddle or shift all offensive players come to a legal stop and remain stationary for a full second. Then, before the snap, two or more of them simultaneously change their positions.RULING:A second shift. All offensive players must remain stationary for one full second before the snap.Otherwise it is an illegal shift.

Carlton,

What about durring a punt. Once the ball is snapped can the team punting have guys running towards the LOC? Like on kickoffs.

I didn`t see any rule that said otherwise, as long as the kicking team has 4 on the LOC and no one passes the LOC before the ballis kicked.

Thanks.

GO TO VFFA.COM FOR RULES
RULES 6 - KICKS

hmm2:57 PM

so, what you are saying is that you cant snap the ball while a receiver is in motion?? cuz i`ve definately seen this more than once over the past few days watchin the night league games. i guess it really is up to the refs to call the game however they interpret the rules

Player3:25 PM

You can snap the ball while ONE player is in motion. That player CANNOT move towards the line of scrimmage (forwards) until the ball is snapped.

Coach3:58 PM

Ok, so I read Rule 6 - Kicks

As I uderstand Sec 3 Art 3 as long as my team has 4 on the line when the ball is snapped (Punting) I can have players moving towards the LOC after the ball is snapped but before the ball is kicked.

what is09:29 AM

Rule 6 defines both teams must maintain at least 4 players on the line of scrimmage.
Rule 2 sec 13 art 7.
So after the ball is snapped the backs could start running forward as long as they DO NOT advance beyond established scrimmage line until the ball is kicked.

question10:34 AM

player runs ball down field with less thn 2 minutes,he gains 20 yards then throws ball out of bounds,at states it stopped the clock, and ref said smart play.i agree smart play, legaly shoud the clock have stopped?

"player runs ball down field with less thn 2 minutes,he gains 20 yards then throws ball out of bounds,at states it stopped the clock, and ref said smart play.i agree smart play, legaly shoud the clock have stopped?"

-- the above situation should have been be ruled an illegal pass to conserve time...5 yards from spot of foul, loss of down and clock starts on the ready for play. You cannot `fumble` or throw the ball out of bounds on purpose for the sake of conserving time - this is a foul.
